ATHENS, GREECE – This year in general is a year full of surprises and I believe that the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna will be very interesting for all of us. As far as the Greek National Final is concerned I am very happy to say that I really like all the songs in the running towards becoming the Greek entry for this year’s ESC. Here is my opinion about all five songs
Thomaï Apergi & Legend
Fresh! Greek! Uplifting! I really think this is my favorite so far from all five songs. It has all the RIGHT Greek elements put together in a fusion of fresh spirit, which makes me feel like I am in a hot August night in a Greek Island being a bit tipsy and having the time of my life. What more do I need? Thomaï is a very sweet and beautiful girl with a great voice and I believe she will reach the expectations.
Shaya Hansen
I love the song I think it’s very powerful and happy as well. It has multicultural elements that would appeal to a wider audience. My only hesitation is that this type of songs are a bit overheard in the contest and I think it might hurt the result if Shaya wins the ticket for Vienna, on the other hand this year is full of ballads so maybe this song is what we need. Shaya is a GODDESS, her voice is powerful, she looks hot, she can dance like a pro and she has a glow that can lift up to international standards.
Maria Elena Kyriakou
Maria Elena Kyriakou as the winner of the first cycle of the Voice of Greece has obviously an amazing and powerful song and her emotions can be transmitted through her voice. The song for me is excellent, it has a melody that stuck in your head and a very emotional story in its lyrics. The thing that might work as a disadvantage is that it doesn’t have for me a great building up point in the song that would give me goosebumps. But let’s wait and see if it will happen in the NF on Wednesday
C:Real
One of my all-time favorite Greek bands is competing for the first time in the Contest #excited. The singer has a great voice and beautiful looks to match, which can be very reassuring for their live performance. The song is really the band’s signature style and I love the musical layers behind the basic melody makes it interesting. My only fear for this entry is that it might be lost in the line-up because the Greek audience has a huge amount of expectations from this band.
Barrice
Well… This entry has confused me. Barrice is a newcomer in the Greek music industry and I really don’t have any idea what to expect from him in the live performance. The song is an attempt to make a fusion of both foreign pop dance genre and traditional Greek music and it doesn’t work for me. It makes me feel a bit weird to be honest with you, I don’t know how to feel about it. On the other hand Barrice is a very nice and kind young man and I really wish the best of luck.
special thanks to Andrew Athanasiou for the review
