SPAIN – The capital of Catalonia, BARCELONA hosted the first Eurovision party of the season and the general feeling was more than excitement. Everyone cheered for the chance to see their favourite (or not) stars in person and on stage.
You can watch all the performances as live-streamed here
Despite the sound problems, there were amazing moments and the venue was definitely the place to be tonight.
Everything started with Jamala and one more emotional performance of 1944, with the Ukrainian star urging Europe to stand by Ukraine, something we all anyway do.
The hosts welcomed Chanel who was amazed by the audience reception while Vladana from Montenegro opened the live performances apologising for the sadness of her song but it was written for her mother who died from COVID-19.
The live performances continues and had all the music styles someone can wish for at a party. From Latin rhythm (Romania) to electro-pop (Ireland). Whether you liked the live performances or not, the party spirit was there.
Problems occurred as we are told from the party insiders that Albania had some issues with her Eurovision 2022 entry, SEKRET. Logistics seems to have also been the problem for having a live performance from SUBWOOLFER who instead and in playback gave us a good remix of their BANANA song. Don’t stress NRK, we don’t criticise, we danced to it anyway!
Senhit (who came instead of Achille Lauro, who claimed COVID-19 case within his team and didn’t come, although some of us suspect other things) and Conchita gave a mini-concert with their medleys but the surprise came from Rosa Lopez (2002) who struggled to perform and really disappointed us although her last song (EUROPE’S LIVING A CELEBRATION) performed, saved the day!
We also enjoyed THE ROOP from Lithuania and their 2022 entrant Monika Liu, WE ARE DOMI from the Czech Republic, CITI ZENI from Latvia.
The big moment came and queen Chanel came on stage and performed SLOMO. Although the sound wasn’t adjusted to her microphone at all, her slaying performance covered all vocal problems (which were technical and not of the singer’s obviously). Chanel went emotional with the audience’s reaction.
We are now sure that Chanel and Spain are definitely going to be in the top five with the proper preparation.
Our correspondents from the event, Victor and Alvaro report that the event was the best ever and compared it evenly with been Eurovision itself. We trust them and we hope the BARCELONA PARTY grows and become a top event in the future.
One mishap though: BCN TEAM focus on SOUND! A top priority for 2023! please!
