EDITORIAL – We were curious how the Eurofans think and act during the Eurovision Song Contest week within the host city. We asked some questions to understand what is happening in there minds and how the see the organisation and the event. Over the past 4 months we gathered 250 Eurofans from 39 countries of Europe, who attended the event at least 3 times and we asked the following questions:
HOW EARLY DO YOU BOOK YOUR FLIGHTS TO THE HOST CITY?
44% of the Eurofans we asked, said that they book their flight at least 8 months before their arrival to the host city and 82% of them prefer direct flights no matter the air carrier or the time of travel. 61% of the Eurofans we asked said they do a big search before the purchase their tickets in order to get to most economic offer they can find.
WHERE DO YOU STAY IN A EUROVISION HOST CITY AND WHY
76% of Eurofans asked, answered that they prefer to stay close to Euroclub as it seems much more convenient for them due to transportation late at night and the frenetic clubbing after a hard day of work. 55% of them said they manage to book an apartment nearby the Euroclub.
WHAT TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION YOU PREFER?
81% of Eurofans asked said they prefer to choose an apartment with other friends. They prefer the flexibility of an apartment rather a hotel basically due to high hotel prices. From these Eurofans though 40% would prefer to stay in an official hotel where their favourite Eurovision star or their home country representative is staying.
WHAT PART OF EUROVISION EXCITES YOU THE MOST DURING THE WEEKS OF PREPARATIONS?
65% of accredited Eurofans asked, said that they just want to meet the Eurovision participants and interact, talk and get a photo with them. They also work for a Eurovision fan site or any other media in about 85%. Almost 90% adore the moment they gather to watch the dress rehearsals and the live shows. We got an exciting 11% saying they love to fleet and have se with other Eurofans or Eurostars during the two weeks of preparations! (no comment)
WHICH WEB SOURCE DO YOU USE MOSTLY?
100% of Eurofans asked said that in the press centre and outside they definitely use eurovision.tv for their latest update. 88% also said that they use the website they work for and an exciting 19% use gay social media like Grindr and GayRomeo! (ok we got it guys!)
HOW MUCH DO YOU SPENT (BESIDES ACCOMMODATION & FLIGHTS) IN A HOST CITY DURING THE TWO WEEKS OF PREPARATIONS?
70% of Eurofans asked, said they spend more than 800 Euros for at least 15 days of staying in a host city for having dinner, lunch, drinks, parties, taxi, shopping, smoking. 87% of the Eurofans asked, said that they definitely buy a souvenir from the host city and 32% said they definitely buy something from EurovisionShop established within the Eurovision event premises.
PRESS GOODIES AND MEDIA KITS ARE A FACTOR TO APPLY FOR ACCREDITATION?
65% of the Eurofans we asked, said that press goodies and media kits are definitely key factors to apply for accreditation. 20% of them said that they go back to their country with almost an extra bag of press kits. We cannot help imagine how the press centre would look like if those people weren’t there.
