MONTENEGRO – We start this morning briefing with the new video by Sergej Cetkovic, the 2014 Montenegrin representative who got in a wonderful collaboration with Croatia’s 2CELLOS. The song is titled Oci Nikad Ne Stare. Sergej says about this collaboration: “Stjepan is a great professional and a brilliant musician, one of the few who understands music and has the ability to pass on all their emotions through his virtuosity and strings, and I am delighted with his approach, the music, the amount of energy he embeds in every note, and I always say that nothing is happening by chance and that all in this world has its reason and the time when it should happen. It’s written for all those who find and feel love. This experience is worth every single atom of strength and I hope that our will and enthusiasm will make our little musical fairytale be known.”
PORTUGAL – With less than 200 days underway, Portuguese national broadcaster and the European Broadcasting Union are about to have a meeting in Lisbon next week. Of course the main topic will be the hosting of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. It is expected to see the Reference Group discussing the theme and logo of the next Eurovision edition, ticket sales, accommodation, transportation, the allocation draw and many many more aspects of the event.
PORTUGAL – We stay in Portugal as the President of the Portuguese Cardiology Foundation, Manuel Carrageta spoke about Salvador Sobral’s heart issue saying that he is confident about his future. He is confident that in the end everything will be OK and explained that soon there will be a heart transplant for him and will solve his heart issue problem for ever. In a kinda cynical explanation he said that due to the first rains in the country the car accidents have risen and this gets the hopes up for finding sooner a heart donor. In the end of his interview he said that he if everything go as planned Salvador will not die from the heart problem.
THE NETHERLANDS – Local media in the country report that Maan de Steenwinkel, speculated to represent the country in Lisbon, is no longer the hot favourite of AVROTROS for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. It seems that the Dutch national broadcaster is close to select the 18 years old Pleun Bierbooms, an artist who recently appeared in the Voice of Holland performing a great cover of Sam Smith’s Writings On The Wall. It might not be an coincidence that Pleun had Waylon (The Netherlands 2014) as her coach in the show.
IRELAND – In a wide-ranging interview, Brian McFadden, former Westlife member, also revealed why he’s done with Eurovision — despite having composed 2004 entry Chris Doran’s song. He believes Ireland — the current Eurovision champs with seven wins — has no chance of winning again due to the competition’s format. His comments come months after RTE held a think-tank in an attempt to improve our disastrous results. Brian said: “The Eurovision has gone to pot. I say that as someone who once loved Eurovision, as much as I love the World Cup. “RTE have to realise it’s simply over. Eurovision is about the politics now, not the songs. All these Baltic countries voting for one another. It’s ridiculous. (source: The Irish Sun).
GREECE – With the deadline close, it seems that we are waiting one or two more entries to enter the race for the Greek national preselection process. According to sources, Kyriaki Derempei is rumoured to be close to enter the bidding process. Well she is having a great collaboration in Greece with a famous musician (Stefanos Korkolis) but nothing worth to mention regarding our European audience.
PORTUGAL – Portuguese broadcaster RTP has announced that the draw to determine the semi-finals running order will take place today at the RTP headquarters in Lisbon. Director of RTP Gonçalo Madaíl and president of the Festival da Canção jury Júlio Isidro will be leading the draw. (source: eurovoix.com)
