UKRAINE – Let’s start with a great surprise and performance by the tele voting winners of the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest edition. Il Volo from Italy performed Grande Amore in the Ukrainian TV show dancing with the stars. It is a happy news for the Ukrainians after the last scandal emerged.
The Ukrainian State Audit Office has found that almost 380.000 euros from the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest budget has been lost through fraud and other irregularities. The majority of the fraud occurred through service-related contracts, which were rewarded to companies without following correct tender procedures as prescribed by Ukrainian law. Additional money was lost through excessive spending by contractors and accounting irregularities.
The State Audit Office has referred the case to law enforcement authorities, which are yet to decide on how to proceed with the case. Over the summer, the contest’s steering committee said that Ukraine’s state broadcaster should be fined for damaging the “brand reputation” of the Eurovision Song Contest. Apart from the fraud allegations, the contest was marred by Ukraine’s refusal to allow entry to Russia’s representative Yulia Samoylova, as well as mass resignations by the organising team just prior to the start of the contest.
GREECE – The mess continues. Although ERT sent a letter of invitation to submit their bids to the eight big record labels in the country, submitted bids came from smaller record label companies which would have made them illegitimate to participate in the preliminary selection. This is why on October 23rd ERT sent a letter again to ALL record labels across the country to submit their bids. Currently 10 artists have submitted their bids from various labels.
DENMARK – On October 26th tickets for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will go on sale. Prices range from 215 to 465 Kr. Ticket sales will be made through DR Billet. The DMGP Final will take place in the Gigantium arena in Aalborg. In the meantime the ten songs for the national final have been found. According to Jan Lagermand Lundme, DR’s Head of Entertainment and newly elected member of the EBU’s Reference Group says: “It’s an extremely strong field we have this year, and it actually makes it hard for us to select the 10 songs. I am extremely grateful that so many skilled songwriters send songs to us, and that they have taken the task really serious this year. It will be 10 super cool songs we will see on the stage in Aalborg.”
