GREECE – Yanna Terzi is the 13th bidder for the Greek national selection. Yanna Terzi is the daughter of the Greek singer Paschalis Terzis. Up to date 11 acts have been revealed so far while in total ERT has received 16 submissions. It is also clear that despite the 1st of September rule, ERT has told the bidders that if any of the songs leak, they will disqualify. It is also said by ERT that if none of the 16 bidders satisfy the artistic panel then ERT holds the right to internal selection.
SWEDEN – Earlier this month, Benny Andersson released his latest album ‘Piano’. A collection of him playing piano versions of some of his favourite songs, including some ABBA tracks. One recording in particular, we’ve been listening to a hell of a lot. And that’s ‘The Day Before You Came’. There’s something so very magical about a man playing a sparse piano version of one of the most heartbreaking songs of all time, that he himself wrote 35 years ago. It’s genuinely moving. And stops us in our tracks and draws us in every time. We’ve been obsessed with ‘The Day Before You Came’ for as long as we can remember. And on its 35th anniversary, thanks to its composer, that obsession has started all over again. (source: scandipop.co.uk)
UNITED KINGDOM – Are Hurt going back to BBC with a new bid? Well the Manchester electro pop duo are more than ready to bring the Eurovision trophy back to the UK. Despite poor chart success inland, Hurts managed to become huge internationally. Hurts have previously offered a song for the UK but they never revealed which one. The said it thesemlves after all: “we’ve got this plan for how we’d win it”. Could this be their time?
THE NETHERLANDS – The rumour mill holds strong in The Netherlands as the broadcaster is ready to make its announcement within November as they claim. The media though started discussing and speculating on names. Regional press claim that big names such as singer-songwriter Dotan, international DJ Martin Garrix, pop-rock singer Jacqueline Govaert and indie group Chef’Special seem not interested or approached by AVROTROS. The Voice of Hilland winner Maan remains the press hot favourite as well as Romy Monteiro or Sharon Doorson speculating that such a choice can bring a song by a famous DJ such as Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, or Martin Garrix. Big names are impossible (almost) to participate as they have to stay in Portugal for two weeks, a period in which any of them can make real money elsewhere.
ITALY – RAI has received 646 songs from the newcomer artists for the 2018 edition of Sanremo Festival. This is an increase of 15% in comparison with last year. 12 songs will proceed to the festival evaluated both by RAI and of course the record labels who entering the selection game this year. Once again the Italian representative to the Eurovision Song Contest will come out from this festival although this doesn’t mean that it will be the winner. The 12 lucky ones will be announced on December 15th.
IRELAND – and we close this briefing with another new release by Molly Stelrling. She says about the song: “Plain Static is the first time I have taken a stand both lyrically and emotionally, and it will always be a song that I will continually apply to scenarios in my life. The lyrics motivate me to immerse myself in life again – even after being used and unwanted. In all honesty, there are many aspectual tributaries flowing within the central story but the main message being; I will not be ashamed of my mind and the memories it must carry anymore.”
