🇮🇪 Ireland now has a big venue to host Eurovision in the future

IRELAND – Ireland’s first indoor GAA pitch will be capable of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest if required when work on the structure in Co Mayo is finished this year.

The €3.1m indoor dome at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan in Mayo was due to be completed later this month but the COVID-19 outbreak has pushed that back.

But the air dome will be able to host a variety of events when it is completed and while the primary aim will be to provide an indoor facility for matches and training, it will also be capable of holding exhibitions and concerts in the future.

Connacht GAA Secretary John Prenty said that the funding for the project was sourced before work began last year and similar to all the facilities developed on the 86-acre facility in Bekan, will not have any debt.

“Everything inside the gate in Bekan has been fully paid for. There is no debt and we are hopeful this is a facility which will bring benefits for everyone when it is finished. We get a lot of bad weather in these parts and this will be a facility which won’t be impacted by that,” he said.

Close on 30,000 tonnes of stone have been put in place for the foundation for a dome which will be kept inflated by air at a cost of about €400 a month.

The pitch will be 130 metres long by 80 wide and will be 26 metres in height,” he added. “That’s the height of goalposts and anyone kicking it higher than that shouldn’t be out there,” quipped Prenty. “If you are going to be hitting the roof you should be taken off.”

The indoor dome is the latest to come on stream at the Mayo facility, with five grass and one Astro full-size pitches already in place, three of them with floodlights.

The facility could have 10,000 people at a concert in the future and with the 1993 Eurovision having taken place at a horse arena in Millstreet in Cork, the new dome in Mayo could be an option if Ireland ever get to stage the song contest again.

EUROVISION 2021 🇳🇱 Although the 2020 Eurovision theme was based on a design we all - somehow - agreed to like, the 2021 version of the 2020 theme seems incoherent and illustrates desperation for presenting something different. Obviously, some try to justify the money they received by presenting this weird and bizarre design. EBU's website, of course, endorsed it and loved it and posted a proud message for it (they cannot do otherwise of course)

ISRAEL 🇮🇱 January 19th at 14:00 KAN will air a special show with Lucy Ayoub presenting three video clips with Eden Alene performing the three final songs. The public voting will kick off and will last for 6 days. The voting will take place through the KAN app available only for Israelis and without any outside influence. The live show for January 25th is cancelled and therefore there will be no jury voting. On the 25/1 show, the videos will be presented again, the authors will be revealed in special vbackstage videos for the creations of the songs. The winner song will be revealed in the end of the show. The change was justified by the pandemic restrictions in the country.
SPAIN 🇪🇸 Speaking to COPE, 2017 Eurovision entrant for Spain, Manel Navarro claims hat one of the songs for the song selection for Blas Cantó is by far better than his 2020 attempt, UNIVERSO. Manel claims that Blas offered RTVE four songs, one of them penned by Duncan Laurence and the national broadcaster has already decided which is the one for Eurovision 2021. Nevertheless Blas will have to wait and see if his and RTVE's preference will be the same as the one of the Spanish viewers. Social media in Spain got on fire with the topic but keep in mind that this is information given by Manel and not by RTVE.
THE NETHERLANDS 🇳🇱 Speaking to national broadcaster radio, stylist of the hosts, Diek Pothoven explained that we will see the acts dressed in a unique way but not as glittered or kitsch anyone could expect, especially when viewers had enough with this pandemic and quarantine. More over he said:
