IRELAND – On February 5, 2022, The Voice UK Irish finalist Brookje Scullion won the Irish national final with her song “That Rich”.
Scullion seems to have performed her song on April 7, 2021, in an online concert. This is against the rules of RTร since Eurovision contestants are prohibited from performing their songs before the first of September of the previous year, in this case on September 1, 2021, due to the possible lead they may gain in the contest.
These days RTร is studying the issue, because if Scullion’s song won with a commercial advantage then maybe there is a reason to cancel the song, the singer or even both.
It is now being reported that RTร knew about the song’s circulation before the first of September and that public television had nothing to do with it.
Besides, the winning Dutch song of 2019, the Arcade of Duncan Laurance, was also released before the allowed date and nevertheless proceeded to participate in the Tel Aviv competition.
