TURIN, ITALY – Michael Ben David, the Israeli contestant, was disqualified from Eurovision. This has not been verified.
La Stampa and RAI news reported:
Italian newspaper La Stampa wrote an article about Israel’s disqualification from Eurovision. The article also notes that Israeli representative Michael Ben David was disqualified by the EBU for approaching and kissing presenters before voting. Israel will not be able to vote tonight.
During the semifinals, Israel’s Michael Ben David approached the hosts and kissed them. Most folks were upset by what transpired.
The speakers were questioned about it during yesterday’s press conference. Alessandro Cattelan replied:
In fact, I was relieved. It was a joke. I don’t believe he’s in the final. “Yes, he was disqualified,” Mika said to Cattelan.
“We won’t see him in the final.” However, Mika’s disqualification prevented Israel from voting.
The EBU has yet to issue an official statement after the news conference.
Michael Ben David was also chastised during the opening ceremony.
