This time last year, not many of you readers might have been aware of China’s hit singing Reality TV show Singer. But last year the show was launched into the worldwide sphere when British Pop star, Jessie J became the first non-Chinese singer to win. With breathtaking renditions of Prince and The Revolutions’ “Purple Rain“, Whitney Huston’s “I Have Nothing“, Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” and Eurovision winner Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On“. The beautiful mountainous country hidden in the Alps has requested to perform in the second semi final of this year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. In a brief statement made by Reto Peritz, the Head of Delegation for Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest at SRF we learned that: ‘The reason is a program planning bottleneck. On Tuesday 14 May, the Swiss national ice hockey team will play in the World Championship at the same time as the 1st semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest’.
One of the five participants of this year’s Montevizija Andrea Demirović says that her first participation in the Eurovision was a great and stressful experience, and that the second time would be easier. This year she signed up for Montevizija because, according to her, she got a good song for which she wrote the lyrics.
Last night, we saw a spectacular final of France’s Destination Eurovision which saw Bilal Hassani taking the crown with his song, Roi. We look forward to seeing him in Tel Aviv in May, as do the 2.14 million viewers who tuned in to the Destination Eurovision final to see him win!

Ryan O’Shaugnessy from Ireland, who represented his country at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with his song “Together” gave his 12 points go to Lake Malawi and his entry “Friend of a Friend”. JOWST, Norway’s Eurovision 2017 representative with the song Grab the moment, gave the jury’s last 12 points to Lake Malawi and his entry “Friend of a Friend”.
It’s only two days until Austria announce their act for this year’s Eurovision, but today, Eurovision Austria has reported that an artist from Styria has been selected to represent Austria in Tel Aviv! This announcement means that Austria will not be sending Hyäne Fischer to Tel Aviv, despite being one of the main rumours to represent the nation. 2019 won’t be the first time a Styrian artist takes part in Eurovision – 2014 winner Conchita began his career in Styria and 1975 winner Getty Kaspers (lead vocalist of Dutch band Teach-In) was born in the state. The Styrian language also made an appearance in the contest in 2003, with Alf Poier’s entry for Austria, “Weil der Mensch zählt”, which finished in 6th place. (Source: http://www.escextra.com)
The active fan site of INFE Azerbaijan speaks of four singers , two male and two female acts, that will be presented to the Focus Group in order to choose the one that will represent the Land of fire at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest. The list of the four potential Eurovision 2019 acts includes the following names: Samira Efendi, Chingiz Mustafayev, Tofig Hajiyev, Unspecified female singer.
