INDEPENDENT.IE REPORTS (DUBLIN, IRELAND) – John and Edward Grimes have previously represented Ireland twice – in Düsseldorf in 2011 and Baku in 2012 – although they failed to win.
Now that the UK has launched an open competition in which the public will choose the act to represent the UK, the boys think they’re in with a chance.
“We’re definitely up for it,” Edward told the Irish Sun. “We see this as the most fantastic opportunity. But this time, we are in it to win it.”
John added, “We know we are already popular in Eurovision and will have support across Britain to represent the UK because of the fan base we got in X Factor.”
The twins are currently recording new material in the US. They have worked consistently since they first emerged on X Factor in 2009.
The song Lipstick, which they sang in Düsseldorf in 2011, became a hit across Europe and their musical style and stage performances are tailor made for the kitschy competition.
The BBC have opened up the UK competition after a series of low scoring UK entries, and decreasing audience – this year’s viewing figures hit just 6.6m.
