BELGIUM – Expected to be released on March 10, a leak of the song by Jérémie Makiese, the Belgian representative at Eurovision 2022, will already be online.
It will be the piece “Miss You”, which has already widely announced in recent weeks is a power ballad with “American” sounds. Perhaps thanks to the author and her coach at The Voice Belgique, BJ Scott.
Here’s a short snippet as posted all over the web.
We remind you that the premiere of the song is still scheduled for tomorrow morning during the radio program of the Vivacité broadcaster.
ABOUT THE SINGER
Makiese was born in Antwerp to Congolese parents. At 6 years old he and his family (including his three brothers and sister) moved to Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, then to Dilbeek a few years later, spending his childhood between the two municipalities, where he learned to speak both Dutch and French. He finally settled in Uccle.
Makiese took up singing from both of his parents (his mother also playing the tam-tam), starting in a church choir at a young age and later moving on to singing lessons at school, where he took part and won, a contest.
On 12 January 2021, Makiese auditioned for season nine of The Voice Belgique performing Labrinth’s “Jealous”, with all four coaches turning for him. He eventually chose to join Beverly Jo Scott’s team.
During the Duels, Makiese battled Astrid Cuylits singing Lauren Daigle’s “You Say”, and he won the duel to make it through to the live shows. There, he performed James Arthur’s “You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Loves You”. He was saved by the coach and progressed to the next round. In the next round, he performed Christophe Maé’s “Ça fait mal”, where he was saved by his coach again. In the following round, he performed “Say Something” and was qualified for the semi-final, where he performed Bruno Mars’ “Leave the Door Open”. He qualified for the grand final.
In the grand final, he performed three songs: “Earth Song”, “Revival” (with Beverly Jo Scott) and “Jealous”, ultimately winning the season.
On 15 September 2021, broadcaster Radio-télévision belge de la Communauté française (RTBF) announced that they had internally selected Makiese to represent Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy.
