Through this page oikotimes.com is paying a small tribute to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Starting today we will manage to make it by the end of the week with a presentation of the scores and participations of the contest since 2003. Today we start with the first edition which took place in Denmark’s Forum Compenhagen. This year it’s marked with the 10th anniversary of the show taking place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
JUNIOR EUROVISION 2012
The Netherlands hosted the 10th anniversary of the show through AVRO. The show took place in Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam on December 1st hosted by Kim Lian van der Meij and Ewout Genemans. 12 nations participated with Albania, Israel and Azerbaijan debuting. voting and SMS 50% each declared the winner. Bonus voting 12 points to all contestants once again and one more jury voting made by kids only!

Armenia hosted the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest and most Eurofans still claim it was the most average edition of the contest. The show took place in Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex on December 3rd in capital Yerevan. 13 countries only took part in the contest. Public and jury televoting 50% each was the voting system while all countries as usual begin with 12 points in the scoreboard. This time the spokespersons shall read out all the points during the presentations of the points, which is possible due to the lower number of participants. Also, viewers will no longer be able to vote during the entire show, but only after all songs have been performed.

Belarus hosted the 2010 Junior Eurovision Song Contest edition in Minsk on November 20 at Minsk Arena. Citizens of each participating country vote by telephone and SMS, which counts for 50%. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of vote. A jury in each country also has a 50% say in the outcome. Participants from 14 countries participated. Moldova was represented for the first time, Lithuanian broadcaster LRT, Latvian broadcaster LTV and Swedish broadcaster SVT returned. The Belarusian public broadcaster BTRC hosted a spectacular show which was won finally by the Armenian representative Vladimir Arzumanyan with Mama.

Ukrainian national broadcaster, NTU hosted the 2009 Junior Eurovision in Kyiv’s Sports Palace on November 21 with 13 participating countries and hosts with Ani Lorak smashing as hostess. Citizens of each participating country vote by telephone and SMS, which counts for 50%. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of vote. A jury in each country also has a 50% say in the outcome. In this contest Sweden returned to the event and the Netherlands won.

In 2008 Cyprus national broadcaster hosted for the first time a Eurovision event at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center, a newly made venue which was fully equipped for such an event. Junior Eurovision took place on November 22nd hosted by Alex Michael & Sophia Paraskeva. 15 countries took part and viewers of each participating country vote by telephone and SMS, which counts for 50%. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of vote. A jury in each country also has a 50% say in the outcome. Fun In The Sun was the motto of the event and Georgia won the contest with an absolute favourite song. Azerbaijan was suppose to debut but withdrawn the very last moment.

The Netherlands organizes the 2007 Junior Eurovision edition through AVRO at Ahoy arena in Rotterdam. Sipke Jan Bousema & Kim-Lian van der Meij hosted the show on December 8th. 17 countries participated. Katie Melua, Chipz, all participants singing “One World” covered the interval act. Viewers in Europe vote by telephone and SMS. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of votes.

One of the best Junior Eurovision editions took place at Sala Polivalentă on December 2nd as TVR organized the project. 15 countries welcomed by Andreea Marin Bănică & Ioana Ivan, hosts of the show. Viewers across Europe voted by telephone and SMS. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of votes. Romania won the hosting bid from Netherlands (AVRO) and the show broadcaster in Andora, Australia and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Belgium hosted the 2005 Junior Eurovision edition and RTBF welcomed everyone at Ethias Arena on November 26 in a show hosted by Marcel Vanthilt & Maureen Louys. 16 countries (Cyprus withdrew from the contest at a late stage but was allowed to vote) participated while Vladik Myagkostupov, Maria Isabel entertained the viewers and audience in the interval act. Viewers. of each participating country vote by telephone and SMS. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of votes. It was organised in a joint effort by the Belgian national broadcasters VRT and RTBF. Belgium won the right to hold the contest over five other countries. The show was not only broadcast live in the competing countries, it was also available on satellite worldwide and the Australian television channel SBS
JUNIOR EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2004
The show was held on 20 November 2004, in Håkons Hall, Lillehammer, Norway and lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes. The theme of the competition was “Bright Nordic Winter Nights”. It was presented by Stian Barsnes Simonsen and Nadia Hasnaoui, broadcast in 20 countries and viewed by 100 million people. 18 countries participated, France and Switzerland participated for the first time. Originally 20 countries had applied to take part but Germany and Israel later pulled out. There were also reports that Ireland had planned to enter the program. The contest was won by 9-year-old María Isabel with her song Antes Muerta Que Sencilla (Better Dead Than Plain).

Denmark’s national broadcaster DR hosted the first edition of Junior Eurovision SOng Contest after an EBU decision based on the Danish experience in organizing events for kids. The show hosted at Forum Copenhagen by Camilla Ottensen & Remee on November 15. 16 countries participated. Viewers of each participating country vote by telephone and SMS. Each country’s 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10 and 12 points based on the number of votes. It was the first time any Eurovision contest had been broadcast in the 16:9 format and a DVD was released.
