FRANCE – The rehearsals kicks off in Minsk and only few days are left for the live show of Junior Eurovision 2018. France is according to our Junior Europrediction the favourite to win. Other polls indicate that it will be a battle with Ukraine. Angélina, the French representative spoke to our editor Olivier Rocher before heading to Minsk.
When she was only 5, Angelina covered Colors of the wind from the movie Pocahontas at a charity event, and that day changed her life. When she thinks about it now, Angelina recalls the event to be a ‘revelation’.
Bonjour! Can you introduce yourself please?
Hi! My name is Angélina. I’m 12 and I’m fond of singing.
So you’re going to be the French entrant in Minsk. How did you learn about France 2’ choice and how did you react to the news?
I was on holidays and I received a phone call. I was told I would represent France at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. I jumped with joy and it just couldn’t believe it!
France hasn’t taken part to the contest since 2004. Had you heard about it before? How appealing is Junior Eurovision to you?
I had only known the senior version of the contest, and I think it’s great a junior version exists. It will give me the opportunity to meet people from other nationalities and different cultures.
Your song is called “Jamais Sans Toi” (Never Without You). Were you involved with the choice and the creation of the track?
Indeed, I was pretty much involved with the creation of the song. My record company came up with a melody and preliminary lyrics and we started from there. The team did listen to my desires.
I guess it’s going to be your first trip to Belarus. What are your expectations?
Actually I have no specific expectation, but I’m really looking forward to discovering!
Since the press conference, a few weeks ago, you’ve been on a promotion tour. How is it going?
It’s great! I go from “Vivement Dimanche” to “Les Enfants De La Télé” (two of the most popular talk-shows on French TV) as well as many other shows and interviews. I’m loving it!
Now we know the 20 entries for contest. Have you listened to any of them? Do you have any preferences so far?
I’ve listened to all of them, even several times and I think we all have great entries. I like the songs from Georgia, Australia and Belarus.
Angélina as a candidate to the French selection show “Destination Eurovision 2023”, could this be an option?
Why not!!! I’ll see what the future has in store for me.
My last question, as a teacher… What about school?
I keep going to grammar school and I try to miss classes as little as possible. When I have to miss a few of them, I don’t have much difficulty catching up!
