FRANCE – The 2021 edition of Junior Eurovision kicks off. Last night a behind-closed-doors Opening Ceremony took place with the running order partially drawn and partially decided. Today the rehearsals kicked off in La Seine Musicale, without access to the press. Based on the EBU (not clear though) videos we have our first impression of them.
๐ณ FIRST VOTING PHASE KICKS OFF
๐ณ VOTE IN JUNIOR EUROPREDICTION
Let’s start this by keeping in mind that in Junior Eurovision, there is only online voting, which is definitely not secure, especially with the use of VPN and with the really unfair exception to be able to vote for your own country.
The Portuguese entry although seems to fit perfectly in the stage design I am not sure can appeal the young audiences. The Irish act (rock in Irish, that’s something new to me) might be appealing to the audience but not sure if the backdrop works for Maiรบ Levi Lawlor. The Maltese act is definitely a powerful vocal act, mid-tempo and hip hop together but under the current voting system, I don’t think they stand a good chance.
The Dutch entry is nice, although I cannot see how a presentation of Japanese elements could appeal to European youth! Though I admit the backdrop looks very impressive and artistic. The German act is not impressing me at all but it’s quite clever to see animations participating with Pauline. I think the Italian entry is bidding for the trophy, not only because it has a Mรฅneskin style in it, but because Elisabetta has the complete package: voice, outfit, perfect backdrop and the music the youth like to hear.
The Georgian entry is another example of perfection. Nikko is a total professional in the rehearsals counting every inch of his step, his song has an amazing 70s sound and could somehow be confused with a … French song! Keeping in mind the history of Georgia, don’t be surprised if this one gets the trophy on Sunday! The Spanish entry, although a decent one, is framed on its own fate, meaning that although it is a good entry for JESC it has no peak, no anticipation for a climax. Though the massive Spanish e-voting will definitely boost this entry to the top (five or three). The Polish entry is the next favourite rehearsing today having all the elements of the winner but most of all a tune which appeals to all youth ages. Additionally, the massive interest from Poland and the current voting system, Poland can easily win this (again)!
