FRANCE – The second day of rehearsals begin. Since we at Team oikotimes are not attending the Paris event due to the pandemic and the dozen restrictions under which we wouldn’t even enjoy covering the event on the spot, we are presenting you impressions (rather than actual reviews) from the official EBU videos which don’t help out anyway besides gaining views for the company handling them since they use half playback of the song and a tiny partial of the live vocal performance.
What you can make out of the Azeri rehearsal today is that Sona is giving a powerful vocal performance you cannot ignore. Clever for the delegation to choose a simple and minimal stage presentation and graphics. It is clear that white is the colour for the outfits this year in JESC 2021. The Bulgarian entry is also leaving a positive impression on the vocal performance which definitely boosts this entry. Not sure how the stage prop will work for them as the official video doesn’t give many details and cannot actually say something without seeing it completely. Remember this entry was penned by Vasil G., the 2020-2021 representative of North Macedonia. The Albanian rehearsal is also one more act in white. Good vocals, interesting stage presentation which can appeal to the youth audience and smart choice for the graphics.
One more powerful vocal performance comes from Ukraine as Olena takes the stage. Minimal and simple stage presentation with the only objection to being that of the song is too good (or too adult) for a show addressed to kids. This could easily have been a Ukrainian entry for the senior Eurovision Song Contest. Now the big question remains, will Eastern Europe support Ukraine or Russia in this contest? The North Macedonian rehearsal is not bad but is not something you will remember at the end of the day. The kids are doing their best but it seems that there is something in the song which doesn’t make it a hit-of-the-night for the audience to cast their votes for. Kazakh rehearsal is definitely going to appeal to the audience. The vocal performance and the appearance of these two special kids will definitely attract attention, sentiment and furthermore votes for the country. Don’t forget that there is massive interest in their country for JESC and they definitely wanna show to Europe they deserve to be considered (after fixing problems) a spot in senior Eurovision.
Unfortunately, one more rehearsal with no interest is that of Serbia. Jovana & Dunja are truly enjoying their time on stage but somehow it seems that we see another Russia 2006 (alike) entry with no climax. Pyros and dance for Maléna as the Armenian delegation takes the stage. Interesting tune but from the given video by the EBU we are not sure that the high notes can be safely delivered. The Russian entry showcase bikes and a flying performance of Tanya Mezhentseva (a stage presentation for which responsible is a Greek team). Besides the interesting and impressive stage presentation, the song remains unimpressive.
Last but not least, the host country rehearsed today. France’s Enzo is giving a confident and powerful performance. Could this boost the interest of the French towards massive voting for him? Is the country interested to host the event again? Nevertheless, the French entry will grab your attention during the show next Sunday. Smart move to use extra dancers (via graphics) alongside his five dancers on stage, which suits perfectly the performance of Enzo.
