POLAND – The 2019 edition of Junior Eurovision Song Contest concluded last evening with host country winning again. Surprise! Since last year, when the voting opened to all international viewers without the country restriction it was clear that Poland would have won, as that it would have won this year too. Polish viewers and fans are the most viewers watching this kids show after all. Surprise number two: Spain ending third. Spain is anyway the second most watching viewers country to any Eurovision event TV can broadcast. And now we all wonder why Kazakhstan bought won the jury voting. I guess if I express my argument on this one, first the Kazakh mafia will make a move and second EBU will cut all remaining accreditations for oikotimes.com.
Technically the show was as it was supposed to be. But the elements of the show were totally problematic with a big issue for me. The lack of sparkle and magic. The show introduced, the postcards were uninspired and without any meaning with totally mechanical smiles, dance acts and fuzz for … the fuzz.
The hosts were totally unacceptable. The two adult hosts were unable to coordinate, even to speak proper Engish while Roksie (the 2018 winner) with the air of an international star (which she must be aware that she is NOT), trembled and lost it many times during her hosting job. The worst was that the organisers let the female hostess, Ida Nowakowska to handle the public voting. Her act was catastrophic ruining the excitement and getting lost when she found out that her home country could win again (which actually happened again).
The 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest participating songs were below average without any chance to become memorable even for just a week after the show. Although the vocal performances were adequate, I don’t think we got great voices this year. The winner song, although we know all understand why it won, was once again a song that no one will remember it and will have no feature. It was also ad to see juries not giving a single point to Portugal. I guess they are out of the 2021 edition.
On top of all that, TVP wants to host the show again as the rightful winner of the 2019 edition. Personally, I would love to visit Poland as it was impossible to do it so this year. But TVP must take drastic measures to change everything in the concept and production of the show. TVP is proud to have made the entire show with Polish “hands” but someone must tell them one thing: THEY FAILED BIG TIME!
