GREECE – 2008 Greek entrant Kalomira’s decision not to submit a candidacy to represent Greece at Eurovision raised questions and expectations.
Does the singer – who has recorded two songs for the competition – go to Eurovision with Cyprus?
The truth is that Kalomira has been talking to RIK since last year to take part in the pan-European song contest. But because of COVID-19, she could not travel as often as he needed from America to Greece and from there to Cyprus to record the song, shoot the video clip and rehearse with a choreographer and director.
So, she preferred to postpone it for a while, since she has stated many times in interviews that she wants to go to Eurovision again.
As people who know things from the inside say that associates of her company talk to people on the state television of Cyprus.
However, there are voices in RIK this year who argue that this year’s participation should be Cypriot in colour. It is no coincidence that in September the rumour circulated that RIK would propose to Michalis Hatzigiannis to write the song, something that was never officially confirmed.
However, in case this idea prevails and one of the creators of the song must be a Cypriot, the option “Kalomira” does not “work” because the songs he recorded are by Claydee and Mohombi.
Some also say that this could be just a publicity trick for the new song(s) to be promoted when released.
We will be late this year to learn news about the Cypriot participation. So all possibilities are open.
