Tonight, the first heat of the Israeli national selection, KDAM, took place. Ten hopefuls will sung tonight for a place in the final.
Only three songs made it while the fourth went into the second chance heat. The finalist are: Ron Weinreich, Katheleen Reiter, Shany Zamir and Judah Gavra (second chance).
The finalists were chosen by the professional jury members and televote. The jury members were made up of singers who had represented Israel in the former ESC contests. Among them one can find Mira Awad, Dafna Dekel, Ilanit, Moshe Datz and others.
The interval act was devoted to the seventies where the singer Moshe Peretz sung some of his songs.
Below you can read the live review of the songs as they were performed:
โBoโ by Laila
This is a nice Mediterranean style song. The vocals are good and it is a strong strat to the night.
“Ha’ikar she’ani shar” by Adir Ketz
Lots of instrumentals on the stage for this one. While the vocals are good, the song is somewhat repetitive and this early in the semi final it might be forgotten.
“Ha’ikar she’ani shar” by Ortal Ofek
Ortal is alone on stage. This is a slow paced song. Once again good vocals, however the song simply doesnโt build to anything and might be overlooked by the audiance.
“Pagia ve shavirโ by Adi Chezara
This is another slow paced song but Adi sings it beautifully and gets a few applauses from the audience throughout. Again, there are a lot of instrumentals on stage.
โForeverโ by Shany Zamir
This is the first English entry of the night. It is a disco dance along song. Shani is a bit shaky with her vocals especially at the start of the song to point that it become just a bit too screechy. Furthermore, as the song goes on she seems to be short of breath which can be heard. Nevertheless, the audience seems to like it.
“Love Is One” by Ron Weinreich
Ron is in his wheelchair and sings this song well. It has an ethno influence which would likely appeal to the Eurovision audience. The song is in both Hebrew and English, though for me the Hebrew part is simply better. This gets huge applause from the audience.
“Victory” by Aderet
This is another bilingual Hebrew/English song. There are some vocal problems in some parts of the song. While there is basically nothing wrong with the song this would struggle in Eurovision big time. It a slow paced pop song.
โAd elayโ by Katheleen Reiter
This is a nicely sung ballad. Katheleen is wearing a black dress. Her vocals are spotless. This is a strong contender for the final. Deservedly, Katheleen gets several applauses throughout the performance.
“Hayom” by Judah Gavra
This song goes from slow paced to dance. The audience loves it and is jumping up and down and clapping. The vocals are generally ok and the staging works well here. This is another bilingual song. Judah has a dance routine going on throughout the performance.
โJust Like Meโ by Lihi Griner & Omri โ69โณ Segal
Typical Eurovision style pop song. The vocals are bit shaky in some parts sung by Lihi. There is a Hebrew rap part to the song sung by Omri.
RESULTS – TO THE FINAL
Shany Zamir – Forever
Ron Weinreich – Love is one
Kathleen Reiter – Back to me
TO THE SECOND CHANCE
Judah Gavra – We’re beautiful
