MALTA – The team of oikotimes.com is happy to announce Kurt Cassar as the video reviewer for the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest rehearsals during the second set of rehearsals. Let’s find out more about the talented Maltese artist:
Kurt Cassar, having recently taken to the stage name of Kurt Anthony very recently is a 23 year old Maltese soulful male artist. Kurt proves big ambition in fulfilling his wildest dreams.
Kurt made his debut in the national final of one of the most acclaimed Festivals known as Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2014 where he won the New Found Talent award with the song Inservi penned by Emil Calleja Bayliss to the music of Maltese top producer Elton Zarb.
Shortly afterwards, Kurt was chosen to be one of The Downtown Artists in a recording studio situated in Soho, London, right after he auditioned among hundreds of other artists to start working on his first EP on an international basis. His dream came true and work is well being commenced on the soulful project.
Made part of a local band named Radio Active which saw Kurt alongside his ex-band mates performing on the most prestigious local stages such as The Farsons’ Beer Festival, Delicata Wine Festival and also the Beland Music Festival, apart from a numerous live gigs around pubs in Malta which also provided Kurt with the right experience in order to improve his attitude on stage and survive long live based gigs. Kurt had to part ways with his band due to the fact that his solo career turned to have become a very busy one and of course, had to choose between the two projects.
In 2015, Kurt auditioned for the X-Factor UK. He managed to do the final room audition with the chance of reaching the judges’ stage. Even though his shortlisting was not a successful one, Kurt will still look up to that experience and his X-Factor related dream is still at the back of his mind.
Upon returning back to Malta, Kurt went on performing a lot of live gigs accompanied by some of the most talented local artists. That same year, Kurt managed to make it to the finals of the prestigious Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with his Maltese song Tezor, penned by Joe Chircop to the lyrics of Mark Spiteri Lucas, a Maltese song which became iconic shortly after a Top 5 successful result. Kurt ended his Summer season with his participation at the Maltese Summer Hit Song Contest with the song Summer Time, penned by Doris Chetcuti and composed by Marco Debono.
Kurt managed to reach the shortlisted 40 artists, in chance to represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest, failing to make it with the final 20 artists of the Malta Eurovision 2016, yet he will keep on working hard until his dream can be fulfilled.
Kurt started becoming relatively familiar to the Maltese music scene with his ongoing participation in 2 of the most popular local programs being Kalamita and The Entertainers, on which he makes guest appearances quite regularly also presenting to the public some of the most soulful songs he works on.
Later on in May 2016, Kurt managed to audition in X-Factor Italy in Milan. Right after his audition, Kurt was kept for more interviews and photos which seemed to be quite a positive sign, yet he never received a call back for the judges’ auditions. Having said that, Kurt portrays the experience to having been quite an enriching one and would not mind doing it again the coming year.
Summer 2016 marks Kurt’s successful victory in Italy where he won a prestigious competition known as ‘ Festival di Mascalucia’, which saw the judging panel formed by most acclaimed Carlo di Francesco from Amici di Maria de Filippi. Kurt competed against some of the most renowned Italian upcoming artists, most especially Valentina Borchi, yet he won the competition and is now preparing himself to return to Italy to start distributing his first single thereby.
