LATVIA – Latvian national broadcaster kicks off Supernova 2017 edition, through which the country will decide its entry and participant for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest introducing Spotify streaming data for the first time.
Ills Jansone, producer of the show said that they want to find a song that will have a life after Eurovision and therefore in collaboration with Universal Music Group and Spotify they will try to reach new audiences and include voting results from the real data by the online customers. For this reasons they are working on a formula that will not allow abuse of the online platform.
Spotify’s Przemek Pluta said that this is the first time Spotify will be used for the Eurovision national selection and he is pleased for the collaboration.
Universal Music’s Petri Manonen said that Spotify is used by the public therefore it has to be taken in consideration as it promises a song to become a hit, praising Aminata and Justs for their great results in the past two editions of the Eurovision Song Contest.
There will also be an international panel selecting the first phase of the selection such as Matthias Müller of “BMG Rights Management” / “Crazy Planet Records” (Germany), Fruzsina Szép from “Lollapalooza Berlin” Festival (Germany) and Joy Deb, co-writer of the Eurovision 2015 winning entry “Heroes”.
