DUBLIN, IRELAND – Former Eurovision queen Linda Martin is not backing Nicky Byrne to win this year’s song contest.
The former Westlife star will fly the Irish flag in Stockholm this May with dance pop tune Sunlight. But like the man behind her Eurovision winning song Frank McNamara, Linda reckons Nicky’s song is not good enough to win. However, Linda who won in 1992 with Why Me, thinks we will make it to the semi-final.
“I have heard Nicky and I wish him the very best,” Linda told the Herald.
I think we will make it out of the semi-final but I don’t think we’ll win.”
“I have only seen Nicky’s song – I haven’t heard or seen anybody else’s song so I’m a little bit behind things this year,” she added.
While she may not be up to speed on the songs making waves, Linda “is working away thanks to the Eurovision”. “On Eurovision night, I am going to Frankfurt to work on an open-air concert with Johnny Logan so I won’t be at home to see it.
“I have worked with him hundreds of times at this stage, so it will be good fun”. While Linda’s pal Louis Walsh has also told Nicky that he won’t win this year, Logan has backed him to do well, but producer McNamara described the song as “bland”.
