STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – The 2016 Melodifestivalen final is taking place tonight at 20:00 CET and you can watch it live through http://www.melodifestivalen.se. 12 acts are competing for representing Sweden in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest which takes place after all in their country. Amazing hosts and amazing interval acts are about to take place. Follow the live report throughout the night. The decision will be made by the international jury and (given extra time) by the public. Frans is the bookies favourite, while Molly is now second in the betting odds. Viktor and Samir, Ace Wilder and Wiktoria can also make it
WATCH THE SHOW LIVE AT 20:00 CET
Stina Ekbland is opening the show. She is an actress and makes a dramatic opening. Gina and William are welcomed by the audience and they are presenting video tribute by SVT to them when in 2009 became famous through YouTube. They are talking about the disqualified song by Anna Book, the hosting thing with Charlotte Perrelli and the record of voting this year in Melodifestivalen. The participants are presented and Frans get the biggest applause in the arena. The voting is explained as there will be international juries and the final vote will come from the audience through phone, SMS and MF app.
Panetoz โ Hรฅll Om Mig Hรฅrt
There is a clear energy for the opening of the show with this entry. The performance is good but remember in Melodifestivalen the backing vocals are pre-recorded so they are definitely saved. It is not the song that will win tonight. The group qualified from Melodifestivalen second chance.
Lisa Ajax โ My Hearts Wants Me Dead
Swedish Idol 2014 winner and direct qualifier to the final Lisa is giving a descent performance. I wouldn’t mind see her in Eurovision Song Contest but there seems to be some lack of great vocals that would make the juries and the public go straight voting for her. Somehow although she gives 100% to the song, Lisa and the song doesn’t match exactly.
David Lindgren โ We Are Your Tomorrow
Three times in Melodifestivalen and three times in the final, David Lindgren is now performing his song, giving a very adequate performance delivering the song perfectly but still I don’t think people will go for him this year. Nevertheless a few more efforts by David and he will eventually go to Eurovision. The song is nice, David is good vocalist but the two of them are not well combined I guess.
SaRaha โ Kizunguzungu
SaRaha with Kizunguzungu qualified from Andra Chansen. What is remarkable with that song is that it’s number two in the charts (behind Frans) for weeks now. Definitely reminds me the 2011 Norwegian entry by Stella Mwangi and although it’s catchy and dance song I don’t see how this could stand a Eurovision participation. Sarah is energetic and powerful on stage and the song seems to be loved by the audience. We will see what happens with it. One this is for sure: YOU WANNA DANCE with that song.
Oscar Zia โ Human
Oscar, the 2014 MF participant, made headlines this year with his coming out. No more smoking props for this entry and more camera shots in the new stage presentation of the song. The song is not bad at all but the vocal performance is not good. Though he makes everyone feel the anthemic sentiment of the song and people give a big applause for him.
Ace Wilder โ Donโt Worry
In 2014 she lost the very last minute by Sanna Nielsen and her second effort to Melodifestivalen is already a hit. Ace Wilder was considered a top favourite in the beginning of MF 2016 marathon and now she is just a dark horse. The stage presentation is great, the video mapping is working great and the disco dance act will definitely make you wanna dance. Somehow a bit monotonous at some points. You surely watch the performance rather than listening to the song.
and the first break of the evening with Lynda Woodruff who’s back to Melodifestivalen, pronouncing the names correctly and teaching us Swidish traditions. The video will be available soon, so we don’t wanna spoil the fun!
Robin Bengtsson โ Constellation Prize
Directly to the final, Robin gives a very impressive vocal and stage performance for his entry. His harmonica riff is why this song will get high points tonight. Charming sold Robin definitely makes the audience cheer for him and I wouldn’t mind see him surprising us all by winning this show.
Molly Sandรฉn โ Youniverse
Following Oscar Zia’s coming out, Viktor & Samir’s headlines with underwear, Molly is also making news with her diabetes indicator. Molly is participating in Melodifestivalen for the third time (also in 2009, 2012). She gives a dramatic performance although her song is definitely a replica of Loreen’s “Paperlight”. The Loreen style song could work for her as she gives a remarkable vocal performance and maybe she surprise us all tonight. Still even if it wins it will not be an original tune to my ears, though it surely will compete hard for the Eurovision trophy.
Boris Renรฉ โ Put Your Love On Me
First time in Melodifestivalen and first time in the final (although from Andra Chansen). Professional footballer, Boris is giving a very good performance but still we all see that there are better songs in the line up tonight from his. This doesn’t mean he didn’t deserve to be here and that he didn’t performed well.
Frans โ If I Were Sorry
Huge favourite, Frans is performing his tune which is massively criticised as a copy song. Four days before the selection Swedish newspaper โExpressenโ reports the similarities of the song with Matt Simonโs 2014 song โCatch & Releaseโ. The first reaction of many of us was that exactly the same thing happened last year and Mans not only won the Melodifestivalen but the whole event. The difference this year is that the international record company behind Matt Simons song, PIAS records, is investigating similarities, with the general manager of Pias Henrik Nostrรถm stating to โExpressenโ that โThe two songs are incredibly similar. I donโt even dare to go into what that meansโ. In terms of performance we have to admit that the over all song and presentation are modern, fresh and quite different from what Melodifestivalen has offered us the past years. He might win, but surely he will bring shadows to Sweden, a country clearly wanting to win Eurovision AGAIN!
Wiktoria โ Save Me
Known from Dash4 back in 2013 Melodifestivalen, Wikrotia make her first solo participation a success already. She qualified directly to the final and gives a remarkable performance although if it wasn’t the video mapping she would have been another typical good entry with no chances. Wisteria is considered an outsider to win Melodifestivalen tonight.
Samir & Viktor โ Bada Nakna
Catchy tune but when it comes to overall performance it’s all about two sexy men with well build bodies and nothing more. Water fountains and dancing in the water included. Confetti, dance acts and nudity. Too much for nothing in my opinion but people love it. Well we will see what happens.
so that’s it for the time being. the excitement begins, there will be recap of the songs, the voting and then the exciting announcement for the winner(s). enjoy the rest of the show and see you soon with our latest post with the winner and the results.
