The show begins with Mans performance and then the hosts give amazing and hilarious quotes as Petra Mede was waiting for three years to host the show again. When they “welcome Europe” the original music from the well known band of the 80s plays and they stop the show. There was also an amazing joke about children watching the show tonight: – They think I am their father? says Mans. – No, they wait to grow up and participate in Eurovision someday, replies Petra. The show is about to begin after the televising details and our Instagram review will kick off. Enjoy!
The spot cards production is once again interesting although a bit dark in colours and lights. In the first rehearsals there were clearly sound problems for Finland and Greece and for Finland the sentiment is completely indifferent. For Greece, besides the naked dancer in the end, I cannot really stand that song! Press Voting keeps it out of the final (thankfully this is way will happen tomorrow night as well). The new thing in Eurovision 201 is that the graphics with the song information appear in the post card and not in the opening of the song.
There is definitely nothing special in Moldova and Hungary. In Moldovan presentation the singer is out of tone and the act with the astronaut seems senseless and unstructured. In Hungary, besides the exciting testosterone on stage and the peculiar voice of Freddie there is nothing much to comment although he seems a definite qualifier.
For Croatia there as a small delay in the rehearsal but the song began after all. Not sure why this dress is chosen but it looks good on camera especially with it effects. I think the Croatian entry is descent enough to qualify. In the first break Mans introduces to us as King of Pop with Petra Mede saying “I prefer not”. The first break video shows Mans and Petra as taxi drivers. Vera Serduchka is also participating in the video! The Dutch (country) entry is nice and the music stop towards the end of the song, bring some anxiety to the viewers I think! Armenia next was simply amazing: the song is dreadful but Iveta is the 2016 Eurovision Beyoncé and the graphics with the extra Ivetas were not used in this rehearsal (for unknown reason!)
The next entry begins again with a small delay Serhat takes the stage. I barely hear his voice while singing and the music makes me feel I am watching TV in 1970s! ‘You just saw half of San Marino’s population on stage’ said Petra introducing us to the ultimate favourite Russia.
If anyone sees light on the face of Sergey Lazarev I give him 100 Euros! The Swedish broadcaster hasn’t resolved the complaints for the lights and since the country is a favourite I wouldn’t mind saying that they somehow do it on purpose. Czech Republic was next: powerful ballad, powerful vocals but this static performance makes me wanna sleep. Cyprus follows with the Swedish composed entry which has excellent stage presentation also shown negative image and this time Francois’ vocals are much better. From all rock entries this year, at least this is considered to be the best but somehow I am not sure how this one will end. I love the howling though! Camera work in the last part of the song is simply unacceptable. Sweden fails in most entries to provide good camera work. Shame!
A coral coloured gown for the Austrian fairytale in French language. Have listened to it so many time here and now I like it. It brainwashed me but I don’t see who’s gonna vote for it. Estonia’s Jüri was not giving his best performance today but somehow the song is quite intriguing for the viewers (me thinks!). I think it can qualify. I love this vintage 60s sound. I am so worried he plays too much with his right hand all the time on camera and it don’t look natural. On the hand Azerbaijan remains problematic with Samra better than rehearsals but still not giving good vocals. Montenegro is maybe too much of a rock song which might get all the rock votes or totally out of the final (the later seems more probable for me).
Iceland is next: Greta is a fantastic singer. Why the heck did she went all this through with the video mapping I will never understand. Pointless, useless and total waste of money. Too dark in terms of camera work and lights. It will get the jury voted and tomorrow night the high points from Finland and Sweden. At some point we think we see Greta singing but it’s an hologram. There is also a magic with Greta singing the one second from the back and on the next second she appears in the opposite direction. So what? The video mapping with the birds at the end reminds me of the famous movie by Hitshock.
The Bosnian entry begin with the female singer rapped with the thermal blanket which is given to the refugees when saved and then the spectacular dresses appear (which are totally kitsch). Good vocal performance but somehow there is no sentiment spread here. Last but definitely not least the hottest mama-to be, Ira Losco. I disagree with the dress which is totally wrong but Ira has something else in her assets: she is sexy, she sings for TWO now, she is powerful, she is treating stage as her bitch! Definitely disagree with the graphics used for this entry. Again ANOTHER dark entry on camera! Shame!
We have the interval act and the two recaps of the semi final participants. Now we will see the Spain, France and …. Frans. The Three Finalists will perform live at the jury rehearsal but during the live show of the first semi final the European viewers will see their recorded performance. Very confident performance for France’s Amir although I completely disagree with the staging and the colours / graphics. Spain is amazing with Barei’s fake fall and the entire show stopping. I believe the backing vocals kill the performance. Sweden has its normal rehearsal we didn’t see anything new, a confident modern song mid tempo with a good performance by Frans, but no one really thinks here that it can do something in the final. So guys see you all at 21:00 CET for the jury rehearsal show.
