STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Welcome to the Jury Rehearsal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 Grand Final. Mans and Petra are going to welcome us in a show which is crucial because tonight all 42 juries are casting their votes. In the afternoon mock voting Armenia declared winner (Belgium by the juries and the UK by the tele voting). Remember you can support your favourite by voting up to ten of them at http://www.oikotimes.com/europrediction, for which we are once again proud as in both semi finals our readers and juries got 9/10 qualifiers.
The show kicks off with a short video and then in the arena a catwalk begins with the models taking the colours of the national flag from all participants in a great combination with the stage graphics. What an amazing opening, congratulations SVT! The voting somehow explained and the show began.
Belgium is opening the Grand Final and although Laura is superb vocally with a magnificent fresh choreography, I think lost any chance for even a Top 5 unless the juries make a remark! Jinx for Czech Republic, they are appearing 2nd in the Grand Final, the song will be lost and forgotten and of course will not win. It was a great achievement though this entry went to the final, marking the debut of the country to the Final for the first time ever! Third country in the Final is The Netherlands: a typical smooth performance by Douwe with him stopping the song just before the end and shouts to the people. Smart move. Not sure how high it will go but I will not surprised this time (as I was in 2014). In the end Douwe changed song lyrics and added #cometogether (not sure if this is allowed by EBU). Miracles happen and Samra is the proof: She delivered without major off keys! Azerbaijan will be close to Top 10 at least by the public but I don’t think the juries somehow favourite this country anymore!
Hungary, Italy and Israel followed giving an outstanding performance. All these three countries definitely deserve a top ten spot tomorrow night. Indeed we have lots of sexy men and lots of great produced songs this year. The biggest applause so far went to Poli from Bulgaria. Confident and powerful she made an amazing stage presentation. The venue now goes frantic for Frans. The host country Sweden, performs and everyone is on his side, even the Europeans across Europe. We have heard many things about his song originality but in the end we have a modern song with a fresh stage presentation adequate for Eurovision nowadays.
Germany follows and Jamie-Lee gives her performance on stage. Sweet and amazing for the younger audience of the Eurovision Song Contest. Not sure how this will end as it depends if 15-24 will cast massive votes tomorrow night. The melody still reminds me something but it’s not the time for originality, after all we all know which song won last year! France is now performing: amazing gimmick performance, the definition of simplicity with Amir always smiling. He told us already he would never return to #eurovision as this has to be a unique experience for him in his heart. Well done Amir! Excellent high note in the end. Poland is next: I have to admit, the song is great, the voice is great but he is not appealing on camera. It was great to see Poland in the Final but don’t see how much better than a 9-13 position. Unfortunately at the end his missed some notes (outs!).
Time for a break as Petra goes live with Tele2 Arena as tomorrow night there will be a huge Eurovision party. Tonight there wasn’t a live link therefore Mans talk to the artists: Laura, Samra, Poli.
We move to Australia, a country that brought so much controversy not only among the fans but also among BBC and SBS recently. I still don’t know how I feel about the Aussie participation in Eurovision but we all have to admit that Aussies are been supportive of Eurovision when Eurovision was treated like garbage in many European countries back in the 80s and 90s. Let me tell you my review on Dami Im and her entry now: SIMPLY SUPERB nothing else! The definition of perfection! The arena goes frantic!
Cyprus takes the stage and the guys give an outstanding presentation of their rock performances, which combined with the special effects on camera they look excellent BUT they sing after Australia (outs!). Somehow they might do well but Georgia is later than them (the second solid rock song in Eurovision 2016). Sanja from Serbia takes the stage and gives a storming performance with an artistic stage presentation and amazing vocals. Definitely in the Top 10 for Serbia this year. Lithuania’s Donny Montell is back in Eurovision with an amazing song and an amazing running order. Perfect stage presentation, sexy appearance, interaction with the audience, clothes off on stage and the audience love him! WE DO TO! well done Donny! Hope to see you in the Top 10 you deserve it! Oops I cursed him: he lost the sync with music and he over sang! Croatia is the only ethnic song in this year’s Eurovision Final. Excellent performance although I maybe am too close to the sound here at the press area and it sounds a bit weird in my ears. The dress change looks adequate for the performance, vocals are flawless and Nina is representing her country in the best possible way. Well done Croatia!
Now that’s getting weird: we have the MAN who everyone loves and desire here, representing a country everyone here, hates! If you stick to the Russian entry we can say one thing: SOCHI 2017. If you stick to politics then I don’t know. Hotel than ever Sergey must impress the juries tonight with his Greek penned song. If he wins not only Russia will celebrate but also the Greek nation will be proud after the shitty Greek entry we all saw (unfortunately) this year in Eurovision!
Spanish representative begins her performance but she has an accident. Well don’t worry it’s all part of her act and it works perfect on camera but the secret is out for so many days that I don’t think it can really stand out. This is though one of the best entries of Spain and I will always support Spanish artists who feel that their Eurovision entry fit to be performed in English rather in Spanish. Time for one more funny break with Petra Mede in the Green Room presenting the Eurovision Shop items in her own unique way! Latvia is next on stage: This entry is so going to the Top 10. Just is a gorgeous and a magnificent performer at the same time. Amanita’s entry will surely become a radio hit after the contest. Modern, fresh and unique! Excellent (I wouldn’t mind Latvia win with this one actually)
Ukraine: I cannot say anything. I am shocked, stunned, voiceless, goose-bumped. Another perfect entry, performance, stage presentation. Can though this political entry win the entire thing? Big question mark here!
Malta: flawless, confident and with the First Prize already given to her by mother nature! She sings for two now and I am sure someone will be happy in few years and see his mommy singing in Eurovision while pregnant. Ira shines and although she is not going to win Eurovision, it was an honour having her in 2016 Eurovision Song Contest edition and getting her this May in Stockholm. Well done Malta and I can see you walking on Top 10 tomorrow night! Georgia is next and the group is indeed giving a good rock performance. United Kingdom follows with Joe and Jake actually singing tonight in tune and might surprise us all tomorrow night. Last but not least is Iveta: although the brainless incident she cause in the press centre (I am not going to reveal more as I am embargoed – unfortunately), is perfect on stage. Ethnic, modern and Beyoncé style entry. The diaspora will give great TV ratings while waiting Iveta to appear last. Our live review ends. Stay tuned as we will soon post a photo with the mock results through our social media!
