LIVE REPORT
Welcome to the first live review of the season. The team of oikotimes.com welcomes you back to the live reports for the national final of all countries participating in Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Nine acts compete tonight for the grand final of Switzerland and the show begins. You can watch it live here.
The show begins and the host welcomes us all in the show and introduces us to the jury members. Before our live report kicks off remember you can read our review of the songs as audio files here. It seems that Melissa is the big favourite tonight. Hella von Sinnen, German entertainer is now on stage.
EUROPREDICTION: SWITZERLAND DECIDES 2012
Ally – Catch me
Nice opening for the evening but this is not a song that can attract Eurovision viewers, it is too shallow. Jazz sounds and Sanremo style songs are not what Eurovision voters support. The performance is nice, she is solo on stage accompanied with a male dancers and two female backing vocalists.
Chiara Dubey – Bella sera
With a simple black dress and her hat Chiara performs her sweet ballad solo on stage. the background projects artistic versions of the sun and the moon. She receives big applause! she was very good but I doubt this song can do anything if it goes to Malmo. Huge and extended applause once again!
Carrousel – J’avais rendez-vous
Guitar male player and accordion female player: they both sing… the song is in French and they want a rendez vous. Well definitely not with me and definitely not with Eurovision. This one is not winning no matter what. I would like to sleep why hearing them making sound out of nothing (and for no reason).
Anthony Bighead – Do the monkey
Jazz and american style song with three monkey dressed singers and two backing vocalists who carry out the chorus of the song – how cheap actually. Anthony bighead might be taking applause during his performance but lyrics like “shake your ass” is what represents Switzerland today? Hmm I am worrying now…
Heilsarmee – You and me
Another song that bring me to sleep. The group is dressed with military uniforms? post office uniforms? I really dislike these type of performances. They think this will attract the audience’s attention but the song was so monotonous and so boring that my attention never came in climax. Anyway in between these two songs video with past Eurovision entries was better to see than listening to the songs of Switzerland 2013.
Nill Klemm – On my way
Besides the fact I love the stage of Swiss show, Nill is performing with just his guitar a mid tempo song which is somehow sympathetic but I am not crazy about it (surely better than the previous two trash ones). He seems nervous and the backing vocalist (female singer) is not sounding good enough in the stream. Three female backing dancers are dancing maybe too much for this song. Not interesting entry though.
Melissa – The point of no return
From the post card the audience went frantic and it is clear Melissa is the big favourite tonight. I have heard the sonG and I strongly believe that from the tonight’s line up she is the fittest to represent the country in Eurovision. She is entering the stage with her bright blue gown and her two feathered slaves. Three backing vocalists. The tune is excellent her vocals are totally mediocre but this song might easily win! Finally Switzerland
Nicolas Fraissinet – Lève-toi
French lyrics for this one and a performance with the singer playing the piano. Well it is a good song and I personally love French language but somehow it brought me to the level of no-interest at the end of the song.
Jesse Ritch – Forever & a day
According to SF website Jesse is another big favourite tonight. The song he performs is definitely reminding me something (no accusation just a notice with the Azeri oh, oh reminding me a lot of their 2011 entry a lot). Remember Croatia 2000 stage presentation with the female dancers playing inside a frabric (don’t know how else to call it)? Well 12 years after we have the same thing here.
OVERALL COMMENTS & INTERVAL ACT
Sven was a great host in my opinion and the studio setting was very impressive. The stage was simply amazing despite been simple and small but I loved the led flooring of it. Sinplus are the interval act this year and they prove they should have been in the final last year. Broggini bros are lovely fellows and hope to see them again soon on stage. The jury clearly show their preference to Melissa when asked by Sven.
