VILNIUS, LITHUANIA – Audrius Giržadas, the Lithuanian Head of Delegation repeated today that his country will definitely not take part to this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, despite invitations and negotiations with the EBU and the host broadcaster NTU.
The main reason for such a decision is the cost of participating to the event, especially this year. Fees are expensive and some EBU decisions this year, such as asking all spokespersons to be in Kyiv during the contest, have not helped convince reluctant broadcasters who are facing some financial issues. In a nutshell, we can say that according to Audrius, the ratio expenses/TV rates is not really worth the effort.
But it is expected that the format of Junior Eurovision may be changed in the future in order to adjust the show to the “spirit of the time”. So, in Giržadas’ opinion, a future participation of Lithuania hasn’t been ruled out. Wait and see…
Lithuania took part to Junior Eurovision on 4 occasions, and last appeared on stage in Yerevan in 2011.
