GREECE – The 16th edition of MAD Video Music Awards gears up and MAD TV is about to offer us all (especially to the European community across Europe) another exciting year of performances. The idea of MAD VMAs is to have duets on stage by artists you would never see anywhere else. Something like what Israel copied this year with the Song Switch act in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2006 we saw on MAD VMAs the first Eurovision guest act in duet with a Greek artist who the next year bid for Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2006 Mihai Traistariu few weeks after the Athens Eurovision edition performed on stage with Tamta. A year later Tamta participated in the Greek national final.
In 2008 Sakis Rouvas performance at MAD VMAs was a preview of his participation which was announced few weeks after his appearance at the show, on July 15th.
In 2012 we saw for the first time Koza Mostra at MAD VMAs who won the 2013 Greek national final (produced by MAD TV)
Back to the Eurostars guest tracking in 2016 Poli Genova performed with Demy. In 2017 ERT internally selected Demy for the Ukraine Eurovision Song Contest edition.
Since 2011 Eleni Foureira was the talk-of-the-town act every year. It is no secret that she and her record label did 4 attempts to get an internal selection ticket for Eurovision. The outcome was negative. It was in 2018 when Helena Paparizou and Tamta denied to sing Fuego (for various reasons) and Eleni was the third choice of CyBC, which ultimately proven to be the golden year for the country.
In 2017 Eleni and her team admit that the song performed at MAD VMA (Ti Koitas) by Doron Medalie was submitted and declined by ERT
In 2018 Tamta had a duet with Mikolas Josef, the Czech representative. In an interview with oikotimes last year, she denied any approach by ERT and left open doors for the countries who might want her to go to Eurovision. After all it was no secret that the Georgian singer wanted a Eurovision venture for years now.
On June 27, 2019 we will see Luca Hänni performing with former Boys & Noiz member Vangelis Kakouriotis. Will the pattern repeat? Is Vangelis setting eyes with Cyprus (because Greek broadcaster’s current administration normally would never accept his participation) in Eurovision 2020?
It is also, no secret that Vangelis Kakoriotis has set eyes for Eurovision for couple of years now. In 2018 he and his company submitted a proposal to ERT which was never accepted though.
