KAZAKHSTAN – Manizha Sangin, a finalist of Eurovision 2021 and a volunteer of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has arrived in Almaty, Khabar 24 reports.
This time the singer did not want to sing but raised the issue of women’s rights. She is the first UN refugee volunteer in Russia.
Every year, from November 25 to December 10, with the support of the United Nations, 16 days of active action against gender-based violence take place. Kazakhstan has joined this coalition this year.
“We want to get acquainted with the experience of Central Asian countries in the protection of women’s rights and the rehabilitation of abused women. That is why Kazakhstan is an important country for us”, Manizha said.
This fall, the singer created a foundation called SILSILA to support and protect people in need.
“Women who have been abused should be supported. When we call for help, we first analyze the situation of the victim. We will find out whether he needs psychological help or immediate medical attention. Then we immediately seek help. Sometimes teenage girls ask, “How can I help my mother?” Each victim is accompanied by a volunteer who collects information about her, helps her and acts as an assistant.”
