SWITZERLAND – Marius Bear’s song ‘Boys Do Cry’ will represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
The 28-year-old artist from Appenzell, Switzerland, combines seemingly contradictory qualities: self-assurance and strength, vulnerability and the guts to admit his flaws.
Marius Bear’s creative career has been as uncommon as his amazing voice โ he discovered his gift while serving in the Swiss army during his required military duty.
“One of my mates was impressed by the timbre of my voice. We jammed together for the first time that very evening. I noticed immediately how liberating it is to be able to express my feelings through singing and music. That was the first step along my new pathway.”

Bear abandoned his career as a construction equipment technician in 2016 to travel Germany and Switzerland as a street performer. At one event, he met a prominent producer who invited him to New York, where he rapidly became involved in the Swiss artistic and creative arts world.
In 2017, he relocated to the United Kingdom to study music production at the famed BIMM Institute in London, as well as participate in a number of sessions with well-known songwriters.
It was a voyage of self-discovery that culminated in the publication of his first album, Not Loud Enough, in 2019, which rocketed directly into the Top 20 of the Swiss album charts.
“I learnt very early on that I donโt need to be ashamed of my feelings. As a man, Iโm not afraid to cry and to lay bare my weaknesses to my audience. I donโt want to wear emotional armour, I want to be who I am. And I want to encourage my audience to do the same.”
