REACTIONS FOR SWEDEN 🇸🇪
General sentiment here is positive. Our sentiment is extremely enthusiastic as it is a safe ballad tune with a powerful set of vocals. I would definitely see it directly to the Grand Final’s top five. At east this year any boost-vote by the juries will be justified.
In today’s rehearsal day one of the favorites is closing – at least according to betting offices, John Lundvik for Sweden with Too Late for Love. The stage presence of the song is, as Sweden is used to, the same as the one in the Melodifestivalen final with some adjustments. The song starts relatively dark, with close-ups on the interpreter’s face, who is again dressed in black. The panel with the golden lights, as in the MF, is at the top of the stage and illuminates Lundvik, who continues to interpret perfectly Too late for Love. Shortly before the second chorus, the white light prevails on his face, while the four women who make the vocals singing vocally singing the song with the gospel element and there is this beautiful stage interaction between the vocal women and the central performer.
REACTIONS FOR AUSTRIA 🇦🇹
One again in this semi final we see perfection on the performance and stage presentation for song which don’t know if the viewers will like or not. If the viewers like the music style, then Austria is a qualifier. If not, then Pænda will be eliminated. For what is worth, her work on stage was amazing… but does that mean people will love her song?
In her first rehearsal we did not have a picture due to technical problems, but only sound and her voice sounded impressive. In the second rehearsal we had visual material, the background dark begins with the singer dressed in black and the classic blue wool as we knew it. Paenda sits alone on the stage on a black and white background and when it comes to the second chorus, the whole screen starts and colors and luminous columns appear. On the stage there are standing lamps that illuminate and surround it. The vocalist is the singer! At the time of the climax the floor becomes golden with triangular shapes, while the rest of the background remains on the same blue dark background. Paenda coupled with the black dress make her blue hair stand out well. It looks gorgeous. The scenery, made up of white lights in a series of narrow columns, makes the whole thing look extremely aristocratic.
REACTIONS FOR DENMARK 🇩🇰
Well the egenral sentiment is that the performance is simple and the vocals need to be improved.
Seventh in a row to reunite Leonora from Denmark with Love Is Forever. In the beginning, Leonora sits back on a large wall that then opens and behind the scene and the arena. The shots are pretty close. She is accompanied by 4 dancers. The giant chair of the national finals is here as well. Gradually, Leonora and the dancers climb to the top of the chair. On the backround there are flowers and colors. The whole setup is similar to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the only big difference is that instead of 2 more dancers surround it 4.
REACTIONS FOR ROMANIA 🇷🇴
100,000 Euros. were suppose to be spent on this performance. I don’t. personally see it worth more than 10 Euros. Nothing special, no sentiment, no appeal. Also don’t see if anyone actually loved it enough here to consider it as a qualifier.
Next in the series, Ester Peony from Romania will be on the Tel Aviv stage to screen On a Sunday. Ester wears a black dress in white detail. On stage there is a guitarist and two on the vocals. There are also two dancers. Also on the stage there is an armchair on which Ester sits. Ester is surrounded by the two dancers. The moves in the hands of Ester and the dancers are similar to those of the national finals. On the backround there are lights. The whole set up reminds the appearance of the Romanian national final, Selectia Nationala, but also the video of the song. It is quite dark and mysterious.
REACTIONS FOR MOLDOVA 🇲🇩
If you like this song then you will see a perfect presentation. It sounds like a hit and looks very stylish. The press area sentiments consider this song as a qualifier only for those who would like this entry and we have to admit for what it is, this performance delivered with perfection.
The song begins with a black background of sand covered with LED, and then a sand artist with a hand drawn on the sand, appears on the screen. That just happened in 2011 with Ukraine (Mika Newton). As for the plans in the sand, it is too many and contiguous (a cat, a moon, castles, hands), but the rehearsal stopped abruptly and everything was interrupted. Anna wears a white, long dress that is inflatable from the waist and below, and beside her there is the table with the sand painter, which is impressively dressed in black. Vocalist, the singer is flawless and steady throughout the song. We pass on a white background that is painted with dark cracks on the screen and the words STAY are written in very large letters on the right. On the table there is a cage and candles. Throughout the song, the singer turns around the table, and at one point the 2 women join their hands and it looks back in the background. The whole backdrop in the background closes with white shapes and a rose on the edge. The painter draws the STAY in red on the sand and places a rose (the one shown in the background closure).
REACTIONS FOR SWITZERLAND 🇨🇭
The press area is enthusiastic. They all talk not only for qualification but also for the trophy. Everyone acknowledge the fact that Luca delivered vocally and slay on stage with his dance act.
Fourth on the stage was one of the big favorites for this year, Luca Hänni. The song is titled She Got Me. At first he is alone in the stage, and then he is accompanied by four dancers. Two women and two men. He wears black clothes. The backdrop is red. She does not dance very much until the chorus. Most dance moves are the same as the video of She Got Me. He is very smiling. After the second place we see smoke. Many shots from all corners of the scene. Vocals very good. Very strong applause at the press center.
REACTIONS FOR LATVIA 🇱🇻
Although technically the performance is smooth and well delivered it is clear that the song is mellow for qualification. Speaking to some colleagues at the press area, they all doubt this song has any potential appeal to the viewers. But I award them two stars for their good and structured effort.
In the position of Moldova, which should now perform its rehearsal, we see Carousel from Latvia. We present the song That Night. Dark scene, same as the national final. As a Greek film, that is. The singer wears a white – silver dress and a green hat. The scenery then becomes gold color, through an effect, as if coming out of a window. From night we go on a bright day. At some points, the camera revolves around the singer.
REACTIONS FOR IRELAND 🇮🇪
The style is low key Amy Winehouse, and the video art shows American comics. The reception is positive especially since Sarah delivered the song with decency. It is in the list of the songs which can surprise us all by qualifying. The starlet allure Sarah has seems to be lovable among the fans. I am not sure how the audience will react. The sentiment in the press area is more than positive.
Very bright scenery. Colourful. Blue, purple, red and yellow dominate. Initially, she is alone on the stage, and after the second chorus she is accompanied by two girls who make vocals. The scene concerns a 50’s dinner – cocktail party. There is a table that rotates towards the end of the song. Sarah stopped singing, in the first cup, trying to get up and out of the table. A sweet and cheerful setting. Voice is good enough.
REACTIONS FOR ARMENIA 🇦🇲
Although there are mixed reactions for Srbuk’s vocal performance (especially with the changes between the low and high notes), I have the feeling that after the second attempt in the next rehearsal she will be totally ready. The impressions at the press area are more positive than negative.
Srbuk is on the stage of EXPO Tel Aviv alone, ready for a unique one woman show! She wears a black coat / dress, short, with a lastest belt in the middle in the same shade. The costume ensemble is finished with black, high boots. The first shot focuses on Srbuk’s face and gradually the picture opens. The colors of the scene are in black and white and red tones, while there are images of diamonds and crystals on the LED screens as a visual effect while the screens on the floor of the stage depict a net that refers to a spider web. In all, the whole scene is dark and “aggressive”. After the second chorus, the singer walks towards the center of the scene, which fills with smoke, while towards the end of the song and at the point of the crown the scene is “bombarded” by too many and rapid flames that are thrown from bottom to top . LED screens depict several faces in the same colors as those of the scene. In vocals, Srbuk performed the “Walking Out” exceptionally well, achieving the demanding high note towards the end of the song, which many fans expected to see.
