MAY 05 BACKSTAGE NEWS
ROMANIA – Ovidiu Anton, who was to represent Romania prior to the country’s disqualification from the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, has revealed the stage performance intended for the show, had he competed. In a Facebook post, Ovidiu shared images of the planned performance to coincide with what was to be Romania’s first rehearsal in Stockholm.
SWEDEN – Brand new video for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest winner Mans Zelmerlow. You can enjoy it and love it in this post.
UKRAINE – Stunning outcome for Jamala after her first rehearsal yesterday at the Globen Arena. The enthusiasm of the fans made the booking odds change (obviously the settings risen too) and now Ukraine is featuring as third potential winner for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Lithuanian national broadcaster revealed some camera work for Donny Montell’s stage presentation after his first rehearsal. You can see the video in this post. It seems that if national broadcasters upload TV shots of the rehearsals or full rehearsals is allowed by the EBU.
UKRAINE – Back to Ukraine as jury members Maria Burma (supporting Croatia, Serbia, Latvia, Sweden) and Lera Chachibaya (supporting openly France, Spain, Italy and Azerbaijan) might face Wiktoria’s end. It is not allowed for jury members to express their preferences and they should at least have been warned by the national broadcasters.
ICELAND – Eurovision has banned flying the Palestinian flag, amongst others, at the event, and one Icelandic politician is taking a personal stand on the matter. As has been extensively reported, a list of flags Eurovision will be banning from the event was recently leaked to the world. Eurovision organisers contend the measure is designed to prevent audience members from politicising the event, but this argument is not holding water with everyone. One of those who object to the ban is Sema Erla Serdar, the Chairwoman of the Excecutive Board of the Social Democratic Alliance of Iceland. She recently spoke out against the ban, so The Grapevine caught up with her to get a more detailed explanation of her position.
KOSOVO – The EBU confirmed that Kosovo is broadcasting the contest alongside the other non-participating nations of China, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Portugal and the United States. Kosovo has a delegation in attendance at this year’s contest who will be participating in a reference group meeting. Kosovo also had a delegation at the 2015 contest in Vienna alongside Kazakhstan, Morocco and Tunisia. (source: http://www.eurovoix.com)
ICELAND – Iceland has decided to revert to the national final staging of their song “Hear Them Calling”. RUV stated that the technology that SVT wanted to use in the performance was inappropriate for the way they want it staged. The performance for Iceland included the use of holograms and certain projections that the delegation were not happy with. The national selection performance will have some adjustments made to it before they take to the stage again tomorrow.
