ICELAND – What we knew, what we expected is what we saw from Iceland. What do I mean by saying that? I simply mean a copycat of the 2020 Eurovision entry, in sound, performance, vocals and stage presentation. That is the trap in which Dadi Freyr felt. OK! I agree on the band and the singer has a huge supporting mass behind them and all of us love them for their remarkable song last year and their success in bringing their small country back into the international spotlight. But I am not excited at all…
It might not be my taste of seeing grown-ups dressed in T-shirts depicting their own video faces, it might not be my taste to listen to the same (in style) song twice. But let’s admit it. The Icelandic entry is full of passion and lacks originality. We all assume that the song will easily qualify to the final but personally I would never vote for such a copycat. If it was 2020 and I listened t their 2020 entry for the first time, I would even give them the trophy. But now…
Anyway, the use of 10-second silence in order to justify their song title, at the end of their performance will once again be seen as a technical problem but actually, this is their way to honour their song.
