THE IDEA
The three young Italian singers are performing in a static standing performance in the centre of the stage with blue stage colours in the beginning and golden yellow in the next phase. The graphics of Italian monuments behind them along with their already perfect vocal performance makes me believe we have seen now the winners of Eurovision 2015.
IL VOLO
Just before the stage rehearsal their vocal exercises could be heard bellowing around the Wiener Stadthalle. A sign of things to come. (source: eurovision.tv)
THE ARTIST
Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble were spotted in 2009 on the RAI TV show, Ti Lascio Una Canzone, but it was thanks to the intuition of Michele Torpedine (the manager who built the careers of Andrea Bocelli and Zucchero) that they became a trio, Il Volo.
Before they even spread their wings with a debut album, Il Volo set a remarkable series of records. They were the first Italians ever to sign a contract with Geffen/Interscope and the only Italian artists that Quincy Jones invited to sing on We are the World for Haiti.
With 1 million albums sold with their debut album, 2 Latin Grammys nominations and a Latin Billboard awards won as Best Act, collaborations with artists like Eros Ramazzotti,Placido Domingo and Barbra Streisand, sold-out worldwide tours and the recent victory of Sanremo Festival they are now artists considered not so much Italians successful abroad, but international artists who happen to have been born in Italy.
