Ahead of the second semi-final jury rehearsal, this post will serve as live blog for all the news of the day, updates and short information from the press rehearsal at 15:00 CEST.
And this concludes the live blog for today. Next live session at 21:00 CEST with the jury rehearsal. Tonight Fotis Konstantopoulos, Themis Mallis from OPEN BEYOND and BARKING WELL and Olivier Vanhoutte as a guest, will review the second semi-final show. Stay tuned!
With a lot of delays, the show concluded and the mock results announced: The fake qualifiers are: Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, San Marino, Denmark, Serbia, Moldova, Iceland, Finland and Bulgaria.
🇫🇷 Barbara Pravi’s cinematic performance is simply amazing for those who love pure French songs. That’s the hard part of this entry. Is this retro in French able to convince Europe to get it a winner?
🇬🇧 One more funky and totally British performance for James Newman. I am sure you will love it but it’s not gonna be voted in the grand final, somehow this will get lost (again) and the sad thing is that they do have a decent entry.
🇪🇸 Let’s hope Blas is saving voice for tonight’s final recording as his vocals are extremely bad.
ΒREAKING NEWS FROM GREECE🚨
The use of smoke in the Estonian performance caused Greece’s graphics not to work perfectly. But the news posted by various sources that there was a second rehearsal for Greece is fake!
The show follows the same format. We have a recap, the interval act, the second shorter recap and then the three finalists, UK, France and Spain. The performances are fully recorded now and tonight as we will see footage of them in the live show. Then we will bring you the mock results of this press rehearsal which are fake! (we ought to remind you that)
CAST YOUR VOTES 🗳
Here are my predictions after seeing the press rehearsal (subject to big changes tonight): Iceland, Greece, Finland, Estonia, Moldova, Switzerland, San Marino, Czech Republic and Poland (if Rafał sings as he is supposed to).
🇨🇭 Gjon from Switzerland is the proof of a ballad performer thinking he has a dance act (I am joking as I have seen it in a MEME). A powerful performance which either you love or ignore. The running order and the countries before and after this act certainly make this one a definite qualifier.
🇩🇰 If you love the ’80s and the Nordic schlager you will love this one. But if you love Eurovision you will not allow it to the final. It sounds as Denmark wasn’t sure there will be a Eurovision this year and didn’t try at all. As if Denmark says “we don’t wanna win the contest this year”. But in my next nordic travel, I will surely add it to my music app!
Two more to go and a short preview of the intervals for the final is aired…
🇧🇬 Victoria is next. Yes, some ignored the song (ME TOO) but now I see that performance in combination with the message about her dad, I think we have a dark horse here. Absolutely flawless and a totally artistic fairytale on stage.
🇫🇮 From fairytales and Billie Eilish to hard metal rock from Finland and we cant wait and see if the middle finger will be used or will stay red-painted only. This one will rock the audience in both jury and live edition. It will be interesting to have Finland and Italy both in the final with the same style song but in the very end, two completely aesthetics.
🇱🇻 Latvia’s Samanta Tina is in Eurovision after 7 tries. Powerful vocals and interesting RnB tune which somehow reminds me of the 2014 Polish entry, strong message (if you pay attention to it and the hands making the crown) but still the problem remains: not a memorable tune. Not satisfied by the vocal performance in the press rehearsal but I am sure Samanta is saving her voice.
Time for a break and a live link with Helena Paparizou from Greece
🇵🇹 A retro 4:3 opening in black and white for the Portuguese “Prince” wannabe. A true and sweet story behind the performance. English for the first time for Portugal in 100% of the song. A truly quality idea for RTP and Portugal but definitely not a finalist.

🇬🇪 Guess who’s not gonna qualify. Tornike! The opening reminds us of the Swedish one. The performance is always great by Tornike but the song honestly will make the viewers sleep. The high not missed and we don’t see the cube prop anymore.
🇦🇱 After the sleepy ballad, even Albania sounds amazing. Somehow this FUEGO replicate is not going to work for Anzhela although it’s the ethnic tune of the show and the vocal performance is perfect. The jury show will define her fate but somehow I have a bad feeling about her especially after the recent press publications mentioned the use of violence from the artist…
🇲🇩 Moldova is next and since this is the project which truly Kirkorov follows in every step and in public, then we can be sure that in combination with the amazing vocal and stage presentation of Natalia, we have a perfect and definite qualifier.
🇮🇸 Iceland is on video after the sad news about a positive COVID-19 member of Dadi Freyer’s group. The video performance from the second rehearsal is what we knew. A static with electro moves for this video-game presentation with the adequate T-shirts. Not sure how the audience will behave in the voting now that the country will skip the final as well.
🇷🇸 Oops, no makeup. They are really looking scary. Vocally good but somehow not appealing. They did have fun on stage and the song could have been catchy if performed in a different running order maybe. Not sure about this one’s fate.
BETTING ODDS 💶 UPDATE
we have the first break
🇦🇹 From a dance act to an Austrian ballad which is perfectly delivered by the amazing voice of Vincent Bueno. But as North Macedonia didn’t manage to convince, I am afraid Austria might easily miss the qualification, although deserved a finalist for me. Not to mention this is the toughest semi-final also having one moe re country and the percentages are less favouring the countries.
🇵🇱 One of my personal favourites and totally underrated in the bets and polls. Although I am not convinced by the press performance of Rafał this afternoon, I hope he sings better tonight. He might be saving voice. Let’s not forget the huge Polish diaspora across Europe. But based on THIS PARTICULAR performance today, I wouldn’t vote for him.
🇨🇿 Czech Republic: From Estonia’s ballad to a funky dance party with Benny Cristo. No transparent glasses for Benny, adequate vocal performance and somehow this one can surprise us tonight with a qualification. Somehow there might a collision between Estonia and the Czech Republic for the qualification here.
🇬🇷 Greece: Although not an original idea the original implementation and the powerful vocals of Stefania’s make this entry a dark horse for the grand final. not only a direct qualifier but for me far better than Cyprus. The green-box dancers worked fine in this rehearsal but the graphics need some adjustments.
