Swedish national broadcaster announced that 2,628 songs submitted for the 2014 edition of Melodifestivalen, 2067 by submissions and 561 by web. The number is slightly up than last year (2,549) something that surprised SVT.

Christer Björkman says that the goal is to bring quality over quantity. In 2011 4,000 songs submitted and SVT has been actively working to reduce the amount.
“It is the quality that matters”, says Björkman.
As in recent years , Christer Björkman taken the help of manager Anders Johansson of preparatory work. Together, they had meetings with a number of publishers and all the major labels.
The number of telephone votes received during the Melodifestivalen 2013 was significantly lower than the year before. Now the Swedish team hopes to bring much more interest to the viewers.
The 2628 entries submitted in total make the Swedish Melodifestivalen the leader in Europe. No other country competing in the Eurovision Song Contest receives over 1,000 contributions. Now the hard work begins as all submissions are examined thoroughly.
