Vüqar Muradov has won the first heat of the Azeri national selection for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. A mixed jury and televote declared the pop singer the favourite in his group. He faced off against eight other acts.

The second heat will take place this week with another nine singers hoping to make it through to the semi final. A total of eight heats will take place with the winner of each gaining the ticket for the semi final. The grand final is expected to take place in March 2013. Azerbaijan will hope to continue its notable success at the Eurovision Song Contest. The country debuted in 2008 and has already won the contest.
