SPAIN – This year Madrid celebrates World Pride 2017 which marks the global LGBTI festival. This is a culmination of celebration and an opportunity to meet many people, among which are many Eurovision idols.
During the celebration of Mr Gay, which took place on 29th june at the famous Puerta Del Sol of Madrid, Mirela Cabero performed two of her songs, “Soy como soy” and “Contigo”, the song which she put forward to represent Spain at Eurovision 2017 in Kiev but which wasn’t selected, comin in second place.
After her set performance, Mirela stated that her love for Eurovision is still very much alive, “It’s a dream for me and one I’d love to make reality”, she commented. This could be interpreted as a sign that Mirela would like to submit another song for Eurovision selection in 2018 but there is a lot of indication that TVE will use their newly acquired “Operación Triunfo” show to select the chosen representative, although this has not been officially confirmed by TVE yet.
After attempting to represent Spain in 2007, 2008 and 2009, Mirela took a break until 2017 to try again, something which she saw as the correct decision. Given the rumours surrounding the format which TVE may use to choose their representative in 2018, Mirela confessed that “I doubt I’ll participate again, I think this may have been the last time”.
Although this does not completely rule out Mirela from possibly representing Spain at Eurovision, it does seem like the contest may be a step too far for her moving forward.
