CHISINAU, MOLDOVA – The frontrunners to represent Moldova at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, girl group ELLE, might not be able to compete in Saturday’s live auditions as they now have a new band member and have submitted a new song. Tania Cerga has left Natalia Barbu and Dara, who made up ELLE, and has been replaces quickly by the Romanian singer Ale Blake.
The trio have recorded a new song entitled “Extaz” (Ecstasy), but it remains questionable whether the girl group will take to the stage on Saturday with the late submission of the song. Previously, Natalia, Tania and Dara were to compete with the song “Tare”, which was considered the favourite to win the Moldovan national selection. Tania Cerga has left due to “personal reasons”
“Extaz” is not similar to “Tare” and the girl group has appealed to the Moldovan broadcaster for the song to be approved for the live auditions. It is now up to broadcaster TRM to decide whether to allow for the changes to take place. Ale Blake (known as Alexandra Mandalache) has collaborated with Moldovan DJ Sasha Lopez in the past,

The selection of the competing entries for the national final and ultimately the Moldovan Eurovision is taking place over three rounds. The first round saw juries shortlist 47 entries which will take part in live auditions this Saturday. The 24 semi-finalists will proceed to the third round, which will take place over two nights in February after which the sixteen best placed songs will compete in the grand final where the winning song will be decided by a 50/50 jury – tele vote.
