I should represent Azerbaijan in 2015 in Vienna, Austria. I was then known in the musical circles of my country. I was a member of the Dervish group (group active in Azerbaijan). I remember they called me and said “Get ready, you’re going to Eurovision!” I was in a state of shock โ I never thought something like this could happen. I recorded a song, did a photo shoot, started rehearsals, went all the way to Sweden, where preparations for the mission took place. However, at the last moment, everything suddenly changed. That year, Elnur Huseynov won The Voice of Turkey. This was the reason for him to be sent to Eurovision, and for me to return to Azerbaijan.
Narmeen, however, didn’t seem too upset that her chance to go to Eurovision was lost.
I wasn’t upset because it all happened so suddenly. I wasn’t ready for the competition then, besides I had just matured as an artist at that time and I didn’t know English well either. Now I’m more mature, but I’m not moving in the direction of competition. That is, I will not declare my interest. If they consider it necessary to send me to the competition, I will gladly represent Azerbaijan.
Finally, the song that Narmeen had recorded in 2015 ended up in the competition, two years later.
Another country bought the song in 2017. I don’t remember which one. I was watching the competition in 2017 and suddenly started singing along with a contestant, even though I was watching her performance for the first time. Then I thought “how do I know this song?” And then I realized… I opened my notebook and saw the lyrics of this song in there. By the way, the girl sang very well.
Narmeen’s song, Apollo, is rumoured to be Switzerland’s submission. This entry finished 12th with 97 points (48 points from the committees and 49 points from the public). Apollo was a judge in Azerbaijan’s 2015 internal selection, where ‘Hour of the Wolf’ won. The selection was done ‘blindly,’ therefore it can’t be confirmed whether this is Narmeen’s nominated song.
