GERMANY – The NDR announced earlier this week the six performers participating in their Eurovision national final โGermany 12 Pointsโ. Despite receiving worldwide support and submitting an application, Eskimo Callboy was not selected for the competition. Fans then turned to social media to express their disappointment, indignation, and other emotions.
“Due to the rising number of comments on their Facebook pageโs announcement โ many of which were against the picked musicians themselves โ the station added a pinned remark to the post three days ago: โWe are always pleased to have vibrant and factual conversations. You may or may not enjoy the pre-selected performers, songs, or be sad or joyful. BUT: Candidate insults have no place here and will be removed.โ โ……criticism is entirely OK with us!โ they would say to a user. But petitions, whether at the ESC or elsewhere, we cannot and will not support.”
According to a change.org petition, Eskimo Callboy should be given a wildcard to perform in Eurovision, like S!sters were. Besides putting Eskimo Callboy on the final program, the petitioners want to stop Germany from obtaining 0 points again this year. Despite almost 78,000 signatures on the petition, NDR has doubled down on the national final list. Andreas Gerling, Head of ARD’s Eurovision team, responded to ESC kompakt:
“From 944 applicants, 26 were chosen to perform live in front of the German ESC jury in Berlin, including Eskimo Callboy. After much consideration, the panel chose 6 of the 26 candidates for the ARD Eurovision Day. The applicants realized it was a jury-based competition. But we do take criticism seriously. Please join me in a discussion on the ESC selection process and what comes next for โEskimo Callboyโ. Like ESC supporters in clubs, I want to talk to them. Now let us all rally behind the six musicians vying for an ESC ticket!โ
While not the conclusion fans and petitioners hoped for, it allows them to contribute to the discussion over Germany’s pre-selection and provide Germany a wider range of options.
The band combines comedy with heavy metal, and their earlier songs, like “Hypa Hypa” and “We Got The Moves,” have achieved significant popularity and millions of views.
we have kindly asked a reaction by the band
