USA – It seems that the Eurovision fans across the world are anticipating the premiere of NETFLIX’s Eurovision movie on June 26 and new information come to the light as we come close to that date.
Speaking to TOTAL FILM Magazine, Will Ferrell revealed more about the movie: Lars (Will Ferrell) is the son of an Icelandic fisherman (Pierce Brosnan). He and Sigrit (Rachel McAdams) form the duet Fire Saga. The two live and prepare in Húsavík, Iceland. The film tells the story of their journey from the small Icelandic city to Söngvakeppnin (the country’s national final) and from there to Eurovision.
Arriving at Eurovision is the outsider of the competition. The big favourites are Russia and Alexander Lemtov (Dan Stevens). According to director David Dompkin, the film is not a parody because the competition itself is a parody.
Ferrell and McAdams did lots of practising in the Icelandic language, with the latter focusing also on Bjork’s performances.
JAMALA & RYBAK COVER THE MOVIE SONG
No surprise that Alexander Rybak and Jamala, who are under the same management decided to cover the official movie song VOLCANO MAN. In Jamala’s version, you can listen to her supreme voice (unlike to her personality) and in Rybak’s case, NETFLIX Nordic was excited about his Instagram post. Desperate to seek attention as always Rybak makes a social media post which includes a wish for collaboration:
“Haha, it had to be done. I’m sooo happy that two of my favourite filmmakers David Dobkin and Will Ferrell have made a Netflix movie about Eurovision! I’m sure it will be hilarious! Will will you be my friend Will will you Will?”
AND A TOUCH FROM A DUTCH
70-year-old Dutch internet sensation Orgel Joke also joined the party. She recorded an instrumental organ version of the song. She made it clear that Netflix had directly asked her to make the video, but also added that she’s an avid fan of the Eurovision Song Contest.
