Greece 2020 🇬🇷 New meeting at ERT marks broadcaster’s strategy towards internal selection

GREECE – Greek national broadcaster had a second meeting regarding the planning for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest and the outcome of this meeting is that the country will decide its participation internally despite rumours about national final.

It is already known that various singers, authors and record labels have already approached (unofficially) the broadcaster proposing various names for Rotterdam but ERT is not opening the procedure yet.

Yesterday the meeting was headed by the new ERT CEO and the discussion was not only about the artist but also about the strategy the country should follow for the upcoming event. Having this second meeting and scheduling very soon a third one seems to hint that Greece somehow is taking seriously its participation to the contest.

After all, it was proven in 2019 that the new (then) Eurovision team inside ERT decided to work in a professional way for the project. A project which s actually one fo te few which brings high TV ratings in the broadcaster.

In the meeting, it was clear that the option of a national selection is not viable and that there should be an internal selection with a fresh artist and maybe an open call for songs (without excluding a direct internal selection for the song too).

Information from the broadcaster claim that the meeting focused on one basic target: To get a top ten position for Greece in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final.

If the information are accurate in the next meeting ERT will put names on the table and start negotiations. This means that a rumour mill regarding the artists will kick off and the Greek saga will officially commence.

Usually, though, ERT makes official announcements about song and artist by early February, so hold your horses!

AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 Australia's Eurovision star Montaigne has released her entry 'Technicolour' on streaming services; announced a live performance this weekend; and will share a pop video shortly. Written and produced specifically with Eurovision in mind, the banger combines upbeat pop stylings with catchy anthemic hooks. The Sydneysider co-wrote her Contest track alongside songwriter and producer Dave Hammer. Montaigne will give her first live performance of Technicolour at the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which is available to stream live on Saturday 6 March at 08:00 CET (or 18:00 AEDT) on SBS On Demand. Those kind people at SBS will be removing the geo-block for international viewers, so we might not be getting Australia Decides in 2021, but this does mean those of us in Europe still have the opportunity to enjoy one Eurovision reveal over brunch or breakfast. 6 0
