Dutch newspaper publishes that NOS has made claims that the 2013 winning entry โOnly teardropsโ is a copy of K-oticโs 2002 song โI surrenderโ. K-otic is a Dutch band. However, a member of K-otic says that while there are some similarities it can hardly be called plagiarism.
Dutch producer and talent show judge Eric van Tijn says, โEurovision songs should be new compositions. The [flute] melody is clearly one-on-one, that is undeniable. Still, I think it a storm in a glass of water, because it is only similar in the introโ. Sietse Bakker from the EBU says, โThere is a difference between plagiarism and songs that sound similar. Such claims are made every year. From my experience, the conclusion always is that the songs sound alike, but itโs not plagiarismโ.

I speak Dutch and I translated Eric van Tijn’s statement myself, putting the “flute” between square brackets. So that’s how I know it was copied from wiwibloggs.com.
Thank you for calling me an asshole. It speaks more about you than it does about me.
