MIRRO.CO.UK REPORTS / Talented duo Jimmy Rainsford and Ryan Hennessy said they are massive Eurovision fans, with Jimmy previously being a member of the jury Top band Picture This has revealed they would love to write the winning Eurovision song for Ireland.
Talented duo Jimmy Rainsford and Ryan Hennessy said they are massive Eurovision fans, with Jimmy previously being a member of the jury. Jimmy said he thinks Lesley Roy, who represented us in this year’s Eurovision with her song Maps, was up against an “elite level of songs”.
“Yes, absolutely (we would consider writing a song). We actually love Eurovision.”
“I was a juror for Ireland voting as well. I’m all about Eurovision. I feel like it is becoming cool again and it is becoming current, it’s getting to a really good level. People took the piss out of Eurovision, even the people who were entering Eurovision took the piss out of it for a long time. It just got ridiculous but now I feel like the songs are coming back and it’s getting a lot better credits. I think next year it will be huge but definitely something we would consider because it’s Eurovision.”
The pair are split with writing the track in Irish, with Jimmy admitting he was blown away this year by acts singing in their native language — but doesn’t think it would work for Ireland.
“No I don’t think so. Eurovision, this year, seeing the top three or four singing in their native language, that’s cool.”
“I think it would be amazing. I love the Irish language in general. I also understand that like… Måneskin, there’s a lot of people that speak Italian… there’s not a lot of people around the world that speak Irish. So I don’t know if it would translate as well as other languages would but I think it would be amazing just because it would be different. I think if you got a great pop song but they’re singing it in Irish, it would be interesting. Why not try something like this rather than doing the same thing over again. I think it would be interesting.”
Jimmy said Ireland might learn from this year’s song contest and try not to be a mainstream international act.
“For me, the Switzerland song was incredible. Speaking Swiss/French, God that song was incredible, and it was an amazing performance. It could be cool to lean more into that.”
