THE NETHERLANDS – Sometimes people speak without knowing and politicians are usually these kind of people. DENK members in the Rotterdam city council submitted a request to the Mayor of the city to approve and invite the Palestinians in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest.
Their request is based on the fact that EBU has active members, nations of the Middle East and North Africa, such as Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and others. But what they don’t know is that Palestine Broadcasting Corporation isn’t.
The politicians feel that it is time for Palestine to get involved in the contest but the truth is that if that was the case, Rotterdam Mayor cannot decide on this issue. But the history of this political movement is not so innocent as it has been accused of close ties with the Erdogan regime.
CAN PALESTINE PARTICIPATE?
For the history, Palestinian broadcaster was an affiliate member of the European Broadcasting Union until 2007, when they submitted a full membership application. The application was denied.
