Melodifestivalen’s new semi-final took place tonight at the Friends Arena in Stockholm. Eight acts from the heats advanced to the semi-finals, where they were divided into two groups to battle for the remaining four spots in the final next Saturday. This year saw the debut of the semi-final round. Previously, Melodifestivalen’s fifth show was named andra chansen, or “the second chance.” Each heat saw two songs advance to the semi-finals. Each of the songs received five votes from the Swedish people. The two entries from each of the two groups with the greatest overall points from the eight voting groups proceeded to the final. The eight voting groups in each of the two groups each gave 35 points on a scale of 12-10-8-5 points.

The second of three nights of the 2022 Iceland national selection Söngvakeppnin, organized by Icelandic national broadcaster RV, started live today. The second group of five contestants ascended the stage, seeking to persuade the crowd. Similarly to the previous semi-final, the audience allocated two tickets to the Grand Final, which is set to take place on March 12, 2022. Furthermore, the jury assigned one wildcard from the six non-qualifiers, resulting in a total of five acts in the Grand Final. Amarosis with Don’t you know is the fortunate fifth qualifier. Go A’s inability to go to Iceland next weekend was confirmed tonight in the second semi-final of Söngvakeppnin. Tusse, who represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song “Voices,” will take their place as the interval performer for the Icelandic national final.

Dulce Pontes, Dino D’Santiago, Surma, Teresa Salgueiro, Pedro Granger, Miguel Cadete, and Tatanka, The Black Mamba’s singer who represented Portugal in Eurovision last year after winning Festival do Canço 2021, were among the jury members. The Portuguese national selection will continue on Monday, March 7, with another ten performers fighting for the final positions.
