MADRID, SPAIN – RTVE have published the audio version of the song that will represent Spain in Vienna 2015; “Amanecer” (Dawn). The video is planned to be released next Monday, 9th March.
The song by Edurne Garcia has been compared to Lorren, Emilie de Forest and even Shakira but actually has elements reminiscent of Ruslana (Ukraine 2004) and some oriental mixes which not only enhance the appeal east of the Danube but also play towards the cultural heritage of Southern Spain. It’s a decent song, nothing special but not a bad choice.
A lot will depend on the final touches and the on-stage performance. However, there are slight concerns, this being RTVE the appearance of a very Spanish word; “Susurrรณ”(whisper), a word which most without a hint of Spanish will struggle to pronounce and a word which could have easily been replaced with something of similar meaning. The song choice has been hailed by the Spanish jury, notably former Eurovision participant Rosa Lopez.
There is however some concern as to how much artistic license is granted to the jury and more importantly to Edurne. Previous Spanish entrants have always hinted that minimal, if any and that this has hampered their performance at the live event.
There is the obvious interest for RTVE on the domestic market, with one eye on national sales, the choice to send a former contestant from “Tu cara me suena” (Your face sounds familiar) is a nod towards the Spanish television viewer but this should not take anything away from Edurne. She is a good singer, girlfriend of an international footballer and a former talent from the Disney stable, her international potential is there, if only “Amanecer” can end up supporting this. To all this, Edurne simply says that “you can’t please everyone”. That is very much the truth.
