BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – Romanian national broadcaster TVR has finally chosen 12 contenders for the national selection. Here you can read the review of these 12 songs, through which oikotimes.com welcomes a new member onboard Ms Anastasiya Umetskaya, which will be performed at the Polyvalent Hall in Craiova on March 8th. The winner of the National Final will represent the county in Vienna in May 2015.
Luminita Anghel – “A million stars” – Luminita represented Romania in 2005 Eurovision Song Contest with the song titled “Let me try” and finished in the 3rd place. Now she is back with another love song composed by Andrei Tudor and lyrics by Christian Faur. That is a powerful ballad with a bright chorus that leaves a good impression. Luminita’s voice sounds really great and makes this song definitely worth listening to.
Aurelian Temisan feat Alexa – “Chica Latina” – A bouncy and catchy pop-song with poor lyrics. It is a danceable track, but there is nothing special about it, except the vocal abilities of the performers. The voices of Aurelian and Alexa are really great and powerful and they had to be spent on a better song with a stronger emotional impact.
Voltaj – “De la capat” – A powerful ballad performed by popular Romanian rock band in the national language. The title of the song is translated as “From the start”. The song has been a huge success in Romania in 2014, reaching high numbers on the radio charts. It is a very sensitive and well-performed composition from true professionals. “De la capat” is already a great hit and it could reach a wider audience if it is translated into English.
Baietti – “Dragoste in lanturi” – Another song performed in a national language. It is a strong mid tempo composition, not a perfect one, but still quite interesting. It is bright, fresh and well-written song with a beautiful melody, and one of the national hits again.
Blue Noise – “Love won’t run away” – A song by a modern Romanian band, that is performed a capella and sound very cool. The melody is nice, the voices are great and the idea of performing is very fresh and interesting. The song certainly stands out for being different and it may have really good chances in the National final.
Rodica Aculova – “My light” – Rodica brings us an ordinary pop ballad performed by an ordinary voice. It lacks a strong impact and memorability and it doesn’t offer anything new, but it is still simple and lovely song with a pleasant melody.
Cristina Vasiu – “Nowhere” – Cristina is a former contestant from The Voice of Romania and she is still trying to find herself in the music world. The melody and lyrics of this love pop song are both quite ordinary as well as Cristina’s voice. So “Nowhere” doesn’t’ really impress and doesn’t wake any emotions in you.
Tudor Turcu – “Save us” – Tudor is known in Romania as a winner of the national X-Factor. He comes up with a song composed by Gabriel Huiban, a famous Romanian arranger and composer, who has worked with Akcent, Andreea Banica and Heaven. Tudor’s vocal is flawless and sounds very impressive not only on chorus but on the rest of the song too. “Save us” is a song with unusual melody, deep lyrics and universal message that we can all appreciate.
Supertrooper – “Secret place” – A fresh and happy song performed by a music group in the 80’s sound. It is a really good dance track that shakes the floor. The lyrics are not deep and don’t have any serious message, but the song itself is easy and it feels accessible to the international masses.
Ovidiu Anton – “Still alive” – Ovidiu, an X-factor Romania contestant, bring us a mid tempo composition with good lyrics and professional vocal performance. It starts promisingly and develops dynamically, becoming more and more powerful and finally growing into a well-mastered song. It can have good chances internationally.
Lara Lee – “Superman” – That is a simple pop-song of another X-factor contestant. It is not very catchy, not so bright and memorable. It might sound interesting in moments but will anybody remember it one minute after it finishes?
CEJ – “We were in love” – Song performed by a music group, whose members come from the Swedish band “Rednex”. That is a good composition with a nice melody, but it doesn’t really offer anything new or exciting for the audience.
