ROMANIA – First day of the year with sad news from Selecția Națională. Dan Bittman announced his withdrawal from the national selection. Dan Bittman is a Romanian singer who represented the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 and came 21st with 14 points. Dan Bittman is the lead singer of Holograf, since 1985. Since November 2004, he was the host of “Dănutz S.R.L.”, a TV show on TVR 1. Between 1984 and 1985, he was the lead singer for hard rock band IRIS.
“My dear, I write here to a Happy New Year with health and fulfillment, but also to let you know that I am unfortunately unable to participate in the Eurovision 2019 competition because during the semifinals I am leaving the country, which makes me impossible presence in the contest. I am sincerely sorry because it would have been a return 25 years after Romania’s first participation in Eurovision, a unique fact in the history of this competition. I am convinced that it is best for our country to be represented by young artists and very talented people who have enjoyed us for years and who have to be supported with all their love. Thank you for understanding.”
TVR have yet to respond to Dan Bittman’s withdrawal from the competition. It’s not known whether TVR will replace Dan in the contest, or run the semi-final he was due to compete in with one less entry.
